BBC1 News was scheduled for 17.10 this evening, but it has been delayed by 30 minutes so as to allow for a special Songs of Praise.
harshy -- did you watch the Italian channels this morning? I had a flick through them on Hotbird, and RAI 1,2,3, Italia 1, Rete Quattro and Canale 5 were all showing Pope-related programmes. Some were showing exactly the same thing. I then switched back to UK television, and saw that only BBC1 had it on. I suppose it will be like that for us when the Queen eventually dies?

Well coined, Mr Moggy, that is an absolutely MARVELLOUS phrase.
You may find I steal it and re-use it!

Nope, news was scheduled for 7.35pm and still is - the 5.40pm update was an extra one, Songs of Praise was a change of programme and just slightly later than planned ahead of this Everyman special on now, replacing Last of Summer Wine and some holiday thing.

So a 25min bulletin appears to be going out...
Interesting to contrast with Ireland (again
), where no less than an hour-long bulletin was presented,
with no other news
but the Pope's death, with the exception of some sport.
Everyone's still in black (which feels so very appropriate), and the schedules have been rearranged to accommodate coverage of the Pope's visit in 1979 in the afternoon, an hour-long documentary this evening, a 1979 Reeling in the Years edition shortly after, and a Newsnight-equivalant Special tonight.
Some images from the wake....I mean evening news:

hi there itsrobert, I looked at a few of the Italian channels there were all showing Pope related programmes, but the subscription channels carried on with their normal services with a message on screen, telling viewers to view Sky TG24.
On Polsat, all the channels were either showing a black screen or the main live programme from the Vatican.

I do try, Mr H, I do try.
As for General ERECTIONS, I am glad we are not yet one day into the campaign proper and I've already heard that phrase. Wonderful stuff.
On the subject of Sky's straps - I just don't get it. The coverage was excellent (a little too comprehensive, to be honest) with some top class reporters and pictures and commentary... but why the hell spoil it with that bloody strap?
There's absolutely no reason why they couldn't have put up a normal (sensible) sized one, with 'Pope Dies' on it. Very silly.
