I watched a little bit of Polish television, a lot of the stations were showing a film(an old film with traditional music) about the Pope, some have stopped broadcasting, while some are showing a black and white DOG on a blank picture, 4fun.tv a polish music channel is showing a message about the Pope.

In Italy the services are running as normal, but with a message at the bottom, telling viewers to view Sky TG24(Sky Italia's Sky News).

Just in from PA News:

POPE'S DEATH DELAYS GENERAL ELECTION CALL
By Gavin Cordon, PA Whitehall Editor
Tony Blair is to delay calling the general election out of respect for Pope
John Paul II, it was disclosed today.
Downing Street said that the Prime Minister would not - as had been widely expected - be going to Buckingham Palace tomorrow to seek a dissolution of Parliament.
"The Prime Minister will be attending vespers at Westminster Cathedral
tomorrow afternoon at 4.30pm," Downing Street said in a statement.
"In response to speculation we can confirm that he will not be going to
Buckingham Palace tomorrow."

I'm eating my words as I type!! But there is a first for everything, of course.

I blame my employer! I think that'll **** up every constituencies' campaign finances then. Has totally ruined my work schedule for the week, actually. He'll still have to do it some time this week. I can't imagine he will put it off for more than a day, two days at the absolute most because Parliament couldn't cope with the last minute rush. A week is pushing it.

Damn religion.

On the subject again -- credit to Sky for taking about 2 minutes out of their mourning schedule to put across the view that the Pope's teachings re: condoms have caused the needless deaths of thousands, if not millions, in Africa.

They had an interviewee on - some Catholic idiot - saying "there's no evidence that condoms actually work" who got Martin Stanford a bit hot under the collar.

Ho ho ho! Massive cockup on the N24 TOTH just - while talking about the Pope before the titles, footage suddenly appeared on screen of Blair tapping his glass to get attention before a cabinet meeting.

Blair is now expected to go to the Palace on Tuesday, with dissolution on Thursday or Friday. I suspect MPs may be staying up late this week to get business wrapped up.

Which website did you find these on, or did you go to the actual channel's websites?

I found a few on a site called wwitv.com, but I don't know whether there are any other live streams other than those listed.

Will the General Erection now take place a day later on the 6th May?

Doubt it - elections always take place on a Thusday - but general errections can pop up anywhere, anytime.

No messages at the bottom actually, but every main terrestrial channel provides many extended coverage of the event (some of them awfully full of that typical Italian bad taste). Only RAI1, Italy's BBC1 (but with adverts) has become a rolling news channel for the moment.

I see Sky still have 'Breaking News' up, when there is actually no news breaking. Rolling Eyes

No, it will still be on the 5th. It doesn't have to be on a Thursday, but it will be on Thursday 5th because that's the date of the local council elections, which is fixed. It wouldn't be very senisble to hold two different elections two days running. And it's because of the local counil elections that the general election won't be held a week or a month later. This round of local elections probably won't look too good for Labour, and you don't schedule a general election to come just after bad local election results. Older readers will recall that Margaret Thatcher liked June elections. She waited to check that the May council results looked OK before confirming a general election in June.
