I wouldn't bank on the election being called on Monday... They could leave it as late as next Monday - it would also mean a shorter campaign.

I'm pretty sure that the Prime Minister must go to the Queen and seek a dissolution of Parliament on either Monday or Tuesday 4th or 5th in order for the election to be May 5th.

There should be 17 working days between the dissolution of Parliament and the election. This means the election must be called by 12th April.

A more pressing issue is that the funeral may well take place on Friday, that's the same day as the great and the good are expected at Charles and Camilla's wedding...

Sounds like 4 Weddings and a Funeral.

From Digtal Spy, for Friday:

Coverage of the Pope's fading health drew large audiences to the news channels all day long, with BBC News 24 coming out mostly on top. It managed a peak of 218,000 (1.5%) for its 10pm bulletin, while Sky News reached a high of 173,000 (1.2%) an hour earlier.

I see a new graphics range for the Pope's death with sombre and elegant tiles.

Why the small headline strap? it just looks odd next to the N24 dog clock.

Also annoyed that Dateline London is not showing. Wasn't it to be a new studio?

Just relocating from Millbank to the News 24 studio, that's all.

I hardly think given the circumstances Dateline was one of the top priorites. Are you sure DL/Millbank is getting a new studio?
The titles are very well edited and the 2000 (!) music is very well suited.

ITV's 11.30 buletin seems to be extended. Will they just drop the regional news or will they start the F1 coverage a few minutes later?

Also used at closedown on BBC One last night before the usual N24 titles then a special Pope "BBC News Special" programme.

One thing Ive been considering this morning is that the interactive streams could have been used effectively last night and today - I have freeview and would have done the following

701 could have had live coverage from St Peter's Square in the Vatican from last night continuously running and
702 should have had a commentary free feed of the Westminster Cathedral service this morning.
