With News 24 it hadn''t officially been confirmed when Sky broke the news, it was only officially confirmed just before 9pm when BBC News 24 had returned to Rome. As for BBC1 whilst the Pope is the head of the Catholic church Britain is a multi-religious country. Still I suspect a news update.

Mixed fortunes for the news networks. Sky News seemed to have the confirmation just ahead of the ITV News Channel at around 8:56pm. BBC News 24 were on a pre-recorded programme until 9pm which was a bit unfortunate. Also unfortunate for the BBC is that BBC1 and BBC2 have programming until 9:10pm this evening with little opportunity to break in before then.
ITV missed an excellent chance to break the news first on the terrestrial channels with a junction just around 9pm but decided not to take it. It was left to Five News to announce the death on the main five channels. To the BBC's credit they seem to have been first with a proper obit VT, whereas the ITV NC and Sky News seem to have stayed on live pictures.

Nice BBC 1 News still aston.
I note ITV1 have gone for an ad break but as of yet no news report.

ITV1 showed credits of their last show, I changed over thinking they didn't bother, but I wanted to see a proper news item brake on air!
Can anyone capture anything?

You missed it then, it was straight after the programme.
Darren wasn't wearing a black tie.

PS
Fox News as usual have gone for over the top graphics that look more like the logo to a light hearted family comedy film:
