If it's news of the death, doesn't it have to be announced by the Spanish cardinal, rather than the usual "press" bloke?

I have to admit the last press conference was at 10.30, so personally I've been expecting the latest Vatican update to take place at 5.30.

EDIT: Sky have just reported the press conference has been delayed indefinitely. No explanation was given.

Isn't smoke released from a Vatican chimney when he passes?

The Pope is NOT homophobic. He believes that homosexual INTERCOURSE is wrong.

EDIT: In answer to your question rts, I think that the smoke is only started when the selection process for the new Pope begins. You might be right though

No, that's after they decide on the new pope. Flick back a few pages for fuller explanation.

Don't think so for the death.

That's all to do with the election of the successor, as I understand it.

"They" being the news channels. In the press conference no precise time was given.

I thought it was the deputy cardinal of Rome? Either way, the fella we're talking of has been at the Vatican since yesterday morning.

News 24 were saying it was going to be at 1630 until they changed their minds at (I think) around 1635 and said it would be half an hour later. I'm really not sure how much you can read into any of this though....

Part of the Papal Conclave. Black smoke, no decision. White smoke, new pope.

Credit to Five Live yesterday evening. They seem to be the only outlet who are talking regularly about the fact that this dying old man is a sexist, homophobic, idiot.

His legacy? AIDS in Africa, perhaps?

That would have been Brian Hayes' show presumably? Not much critical comment to speak of on 'Drive'; Peter Allen at his most cautious with extra gravitas etc.
