Was travelling on business yesterday, and the hotel that I stayed in didn't have my normal BBC World preferred channel. Had to watch Sky News instead. I have to say their coverage has been excellent.
A very imposing and memorable opening shot on Live at Five, with Thompson in Rome and Botting in Krakow, in a way that only Sky can do.

That's not a shame at all... BBC World did not provide any continuing coverage, the news was continuously interrupted by programmes such as Hardtalk Extra, Speed or Secrets of the Antarctica, almost no live coverage from St. Peter Square. Awful.
But what else can they say? He's gravely ill, and is close to death. For the moment, that's all the info that is known. I think BBC World have handled it very sensibly indeed. There's no need for blanket coverage until he actually dies.
I hope Sky review their Breaking News strap for the relaunch later in the year. It really is over-used and spoils their otherwise superb coverage. And why does it need 'Breaking News' and 'Sky News Flash'?
To be honest, I even prefer Fox News' 'News Alert' strap, it's smaller and more discrete, and doesn't remain on the screen.
Sky are doing quite a complicated task, with 3-ways conducted from Rome, and satellite link-ups to 'here, there and everywhere'. But they make it look all so slick and polished.
Except this morning when Anna finnished speaking before we got Julie sayin "I can't hear you" - i take it that must have been to the editor or someone rather than Anna.
But yes very slick, and stylish coverage - agree about 'Breaking News'.

Yesterday evening the rolling news channels kept saying the same stuff, I know, all the same I kept watching because something new could happen. And in that moment I wasn't quite in the mood of watching Speed or enjoying Gavin Esler interviewing someone, I just wanted to be continuously updated. And that's what all rolling news channel but BBC World did.
Credit to Five Live yesterday evening. They seem to be the only outlet who are talking regularly about the fact that this dying old man is a sexist, homophobic, idiot.
