Why do people feel the need to re-write history after someone dies? Or is about to die?

The implosion of the communist world had very little to do with the Pope or Ronald Reagen, whose advocates tried to suggest that communism fell because of him (an outright lie)

Well all I really wanted to say was "I'm catholic and dont really care if the Pope dies or not and that I do find all the coverage on him very fascinating" Ive watched it alot today on BBC World

I'm catholic, not religious though, I'm but Polish. To me you were implying that the Pope has none no good to the world.

There are a lot of Catholics in the UK, but have no idea what to expect from the media in the event of his death.

All the big presenters are coming on now...Sophie Raworth now joined Phil on News 24 - news special at 11.30 (also on BBC One.)

Martin Stanford live in Rome for Sky News.

Judging by previous events - Jon Sopel's probably being sent to Rome for News 24. Huw could turn up there later too for BBC One.

EDIT: Simon said at the end of Breakfast that there would be a news update on BBC One at 10am but there wasn't - presumably he meant 11?

No, 11 April - not 1 April.

ITV used an NBC correspondent live on the Morning News.
Haven't seen any TV since 9am but I guess they've got people on the way

Would think so. When else is it going to get an outing. Anyway surly this is a time for "National Reflection"
I would presume the plans for the announcement on the BBC have been finalised. Who are we to expect to break the news? From which studio? Black ties, or has Heggessey popped down to the newsroom this morning....

They just had a right time cancelling the 11.27 adverts on the ITV News Channel just then to take the Pope Statement. The news channel was stretched to 16:9 for a moment
