She is absolutely awful, but then so are all the Points West presenters led by the abominable Vacher. They are all so saccherine sweet and patronising.

She's being given some training in journalism and news presenting (She's doing the early shift WITH a producer) but shortly (maybe a matter of weeks or months) she'll be moved into the top slot, mark my words.

Sounds like an strange idea but it isnt really . Game show hostesses doing the evening news is becoming a commonplace practice.
No pressure on Alex either like the 'dancing queen ' does it matter if she isnt that good. (Actually i've seen her on Brainteaser and she flies through the autocue, not literally thankfully
)
It is a strange arrangement for her at the moment ; handing out a few grand to a lucky lunchtime contestant then pop over to P'nts Wrst for the afternoon news .
Thats showbiz .

How does the dreadful, prissy Miss Parr feel about this? She seems to be hanging on to the gig like a limpet.

Alex is very good. Shows what a pro can do with the same dodgy scripts. Looks great as well...rather like that that other posh blonde 'totty' on Inside Out. Do hope someone high up's not got a 'type'...
Don't know why she needs 'training' in journalistic skills - she's not going to use them on that show. and will have to be 're trained' in her next news job anyway...
One day last week I read that only 18% time was spent on news/feature stories that could not be directly sourced from press releases. A staggering 87% had no further journalistic development (Contry views, developed arguments, context.) pispoor as Private Eye would say.
Given the budgets involved at the BBC, this REALLY is not good enough.
So Alex has gone from re-arranging the letters to make a word, to re-arranging words to make a 'news' programme.

Gary look past the breasts, have you actually taken in her skills as a Newsreader? She's unbelieveably bad. Good on her for trying and all that, but really? She's so out of her depth.

They have a type: cheap. (Or at least cheaper than a trained and experienced journalist would demand)

I'm not especially pro-unions, but I'm surprised there hasn't been any comment from them about the influx of non-journalist journalists. There's also Denise Lewis on Midlands Today. If I was a journalist (and hopefully will be in a couple of years' time) then I'd be pretty pissed off to have someone who's never done journalism skip up several rungs of the ladder just like that.
I wonder how pissed off people at BBC Bristol and West Midlands are?

Can't speak for Midlands, but in Bristol we're as ****ed off as you can be.... people (GOOD, YOUNG, TALENTED PEOPLE) are leaving left, right and centre. Andrew Wilson, the man so-say in charge, is too weak/too worried about his own position to take any action against the bullies who've destroyed the place ... Jane Kinghorn, Stephanie Marshall (and Jenny Lacey at Radio Bristol).
Whatever problems Points West has had, it's never been presenters. Yet its them who are first to get the chop if the ratings are bad (Susan pushed, Sally removed from screen, Imogen/Amanda passed over). "yes-men" progress, anyone who stands up to the bosses is bullied out of post or into 'occupational health".
If you're training to be a journalist, good on you. But if you want to get somewhere in tele, you'd be better enrolling on an acting course or management course. There's no longer room for journalists in the BBC, certainly not at Bristol.

You can't be serious to think that these are high quality presenters:
Osman - fluffy
Challenor - looks embarassed to be on screen
Sellars/Parr - horrendously prissy
The sooner that the patronising Vacher and Garmston reach the revolving door the better.
