The point is the opposite. Too much time on their hands if any manager can write THAT bull. Usually its HR departments that create all the fluff, that clearly was political positioning by the specific management..'look at us, we're great, no problems here gov'

Just watching the afternoon summary, noticed that they've changed the studio. In the brief bits I saw they now have a new desk (circular i think), wooden floor and, a screen. Might be back to two presenters too in the evening programme.

I've not yet seen it, but there's a VERY strong rumour in these parts that the new floor ISN'T black.

As I said, and as is clearly evident in newspapers across the land, this kind of bland marketing diatribe is extremely commonplace in adverts for high-profile (and even not so high-profile) jobs from large companies. Since virtually every single other large organisation does exactly the same thing, your assessment that this was some cynical ploy by higher management doesn't really hold water.

Although the language used may fit with your take on the situation at BBC West, the fact that this kind of language is used in job ads from organisations across almost every industry - from media to charity to manufacturing to telecommunications - it's pretty certain to be nothing more than a coincidence.

Every organisation wants to portray a "look at us, we're great, no problems here gov" image to the public, to the very people whose talents they want to draw in, so to make a big deal of this one advert for doing the same as everyone else just because things aren't rosy behind the scenes betrays a naivety on your part as to how these things work. The fact that you're merely speculating that management somehow overruled HR in the writing of the advert doesn't exactly lend weight to your argument.

The floor is a painted wood-effect to look like the network set. Interesting to see the desk back - is it up lit again to reduce the visible bags on some of the presenters, I wonder? (and yes, I mean Points West not HTV!) Looks like a new lighting rig too - David just walked across the set without without disappearing into shadows.

Is the improved lighting a new rig or as simple as the floor no longer soaking up all the light available?

I reckon it's a new rig. If it were just down to the changing floor colour - there would have been more consistency to the 'shadowed' areas before. (I'm not sure that makes sense in words, but think about it, and perhaps it'll become clearer!?)

Yes, I know what you mean. We're on the same wavelength, channel 58, I believe!

Just read this far back..

Who is speculating? Who mentioned overruled HR? It's common for a section to be written by local managers then added to with the grade and role formalities. My point is that in the whole overblown Job ad for a regional news show...there is not ONE reference in the pre-amble to NEWS.

I'm disappointed that you choose make up a point (that was not being made) in order to disagree with it. Please, disagree and argue..you usually entertain me on dull moments, but do so on the points I'm making, not the ones I'm not.

I agree. I don't dislike Amanda, I just think it looks odd to see a young woman presenting with two men old enough to be her grandpas. There's no chemistry in their adlibs because they simply can't 'flirt' with each other (and if they did it would be an even bigger turn-off). Susan and Sally got away with it no matter how old or young their co-presenters. I think it's the men that need changing, not the women (although it's too late for Sally and Susan).

Any chance of some caps of this slightly revamped studio, please?
