Interesting intro - a programme slide of BBC News with an announcer. I guess this replaces static idents.

No. This was just a normal news report, not an obit.

I'm pretty sure it was an obit, as there was no other news mentioned - as a headline or otherwise - and it was introduced as "we now cross over to Darren Jordon for a News Report. If I recall correctly, back in the days of the balloon, an extraordinary announcement such as this would be introduced with a static balloon slide and the text "News Report" over it - in much the same way that was done today.

I can't see that there was a news summary scheduled for that junction anywhere.

BBC LDN, listen to Dan - he actually knows what he was talking about.

It was a news report - they aren't sheduled but fit into a suitable junction, and they normally only contain one story. An obit is where you actually break into a programme, and is when someone on the obit dies (the queen, current primeminister etc...).

Indeed, and only very few people qualify for an obit these days.

News reports have never been introduced with static symbol slides although the one from BBC ONE's "white bar" look did have blurred capoeira dancers in the background, as did many of the slides.

When the Queen Mother died it was introduced not as a news report but an "official announcement" as the Palace had confirmed that she'd died.

Not sure what I make of this slide (apologies for picture quality!)

Did Wales do anything extra, Dan?

In view of Jim's Cardiff south east connections.

They've named the bottom of St. Mary Street in Cardiff 'Callaghan Square' which is currently being developed. It does have a sculpture of four aluminium towers - perhaps linking his four posts of high office he held?

I hope one day, long from now there will be a Nick Harvey statue in Roath park! Smile

Or a clock tower on which all four dials occasionally show the same time!

Will there be a state fuernal for Mr Callagan like Winston Chuchill. They had one last year with Ronald Regan and it siad if Maragret Thatcher dies, She would be given a state fuernal. Did Harold Wilson get one when he died.
