Phil has QUIT THE BBC. Therefore I would find it very surprising if he was presenting ANYTHING on the BBC.

Well taken from page 8 of today's The Times
" 'Philip has chosen to leave the full-time employment of the BBC. He may continue to work for us as a freelancer and the door is always open.' "
Never say never.

Don't put words in the man's mouth.
It could well be that he asked for another assignment and was refused; leaving him little choice but to quit.

it has to be said Phillip must have really hated Kate to have quit the BBC outright.

News 24 won't be quite the same without Phil Hayton. He brought plenty of gravity and integrity with him - he always did a solid job of delivering the news. Sad situation about him not getting on well with Kate.
I agree that it would be good for him to freelance and continue with his Sunday afternoon shift.

Got nothing against the man, did his job with great professionalism and an air of gravitas.
But give it 3 months and nobody will remember him because....well, he just isn't very memorable. He's just there. And I think that's the problem with his broadcasts on News 24- they were perfectly adequate but they weren't remotely special.
For that reason I'm not glad he's left (that would be harsh to this excellent professional), but I don't think it's a bad thing for News 24 in the long run.
If anything's soured it for me it is the way he's left. There's simply no need to 'blame' another worker in this instance as he's done with Kate Silverton. She's remained dignified and made no comment. Good on her.

Does Phillip read TV Forum?
Would that make a difference? How about if Kate reads?
What I'm saying is that people in a work situation don't always get along, or work well together. "Hate" doesn't necessarily come into it, and as one possible alternative I suggested that he may not have been given an option for reassignment.
Perhaps Mr Hayton doesn't *need* to work now and decided he would rather not work than stay in a less than ideal situation.
Of course, they may loathe each other - but I wouldn't presume to say.

yeah that's true fair comment Gavin, it's just a shame he's quit totally.
