As an aside: I don’t recall that Channel 4 News set and branded desk. And the wide shot looks like an early flatscreen tv. But on closer examination, is just a projection onto a flat surface?

Is it a DVE? I suspect there is a smaller TV in Peter's eyeline, but it's being masked by a bigger 'screen' being overlaid in the vision mixer, in the same way that the programme logo is in the final shot.

That's my thought too. Interesting that back then they'd often set up DTL interviews with the interviewee looking out of the screen at the presenter as if it was a window, though Paul McCartney's eyes do keep darting towards the camera
