Its interesting as I tuned into sky news aussie just before and there was an aston saying he had died, and they had a little brief on him and how he died. When I watched BBC World there was no mention of him at all and same for CNN

ABC broke into local programming with a special report around 11:45pm ET (4:45am GMT if I'm not mistaken) and was anchored by Charlie Gibson from Good Morning America. CNN aired the ABC News special around 12:20am ET(at least that's when I tuned in, but it was shown as a news clip).
CNN and Headline News also ran the same programming for a short period. But HLN have returned to a taped news programming with an updated 'Breaking News' ticker on the bottom of the screen.
Aaron Brown was interviewed on CNN. Aaron worked at ABC News and with Peter Jennings. It seems lots of news anchors from ABC(George Stephanopolous) and CNN are talking about Peter. NBC also broke into local programming with the news.

It's a real sad day for journalism. Also sad to see a fellow Canadian pass on.
RIP, Peter Jennings

Not really that surprising, he's not really that well known outside the US. I'm surprised that Sky reported it to be honest, he's not very well known in the UK

I worked with an old-school news editor some years ago who was mightily impressed with Peter Jennings. Following a big Northern Ireland story, Peter Jennings had called for some guidance and information. The editor on duty spoke to him and gave him some quotes and asked if he'd like them faxed to him.

Peter Jennings thanked him for the offer but had taken every detail down in shorthand. You'd be surprised how few high profile journalists can do that these days.

quite disrespectful indeed

did every network break into their schedual? i know CBS did, i'm trying NBC, but MSNBC just shows the breaking news from the cable channel, then ABC they just have the videos of his life ect

will ABC dub-out Peter's name on the titles and the announcement tonight on WNT? or will this be yet another fault to talent openings?

It's now been deleted - does anyone know what it said in the first place?

Some pathetic, right-wing idiots decided to put a thread up saying ''yeah, yeah, sorry he's dead but he was a puppet of the Democrats and a worthless journalist, reported only from the left wing'' blah, blah, blah.

A lot of it was very offensive and all of it was absolute crap.

You are mistaken. 11.45pm EDT is 4.45am BST not GMT. Rolling Eyes

It will be interesting to see how long after he goes that they rename it

I think ABC should retire the World News Tonight name and begin afresh with a new title: ABC Evening News? Apparently the top contenders for the anchor post are Terry Moran, ABC's WH corresp, and Bob Woodruff, senior corresp. Both are terrible typical fake US anchors, not a patch on classy Canadian Peter.
