True, but does feel like just as they're building up some momentum and just as politics is actually getting interesting they're going off the air, handing the advantage back to the BBC. If I were ITV I'd be looking to extend it by a couple more week at least.

Sounds like a stupid move. Maybe it's because I'm in the US and I'm used to Sunday political shows being year round it baffles me why they'd stop especially at such an important time. The only times the shows are preempted are because of sports that cannot be messed with or postponed (such as the EPL Championship Sunday and the French Open) and when theres a holiday they still will be on the air.

To be fair, parliament will take its summer recess on the 21 July so often nothing significant happens politically during this time until it reassembles on the 5th of September.

I think this year will be the exception to the rule.

The political establishment was expecting a 'Remain' win, everyone would go off for their holidays in July/August to lick their wounds/build bridges, and then return to normal in September.

The political landscape is currently rather different. I would hope that Marr, Peston and SP stay on through the Summer.

Does Murnaghan usually continue over the Summer on Sky News, or does the slot revert to a more standard news hour?

Shows the lack of committment stopping this before the Summer Recess begins. Moreso with the upheaval currently in train. Does anyone know when it's expected back? Conference Season? or September pre conference session?. Shows it's domestic focus too with the US Conventions due in August with all the baggage Clinton and Trump will bring to the Global Political scene.

Lack of commitment? It's only just launched - of course they're going to want to take a break for the summer to assess what worked and what didn't.

And nobody predicted the political turmoil currently happening - not even the Government.

Agree about both if it's focus is narrowed to Britain, Disagree that the break should occur prior to recess, As for the turmoil. ITV had notice of that at 0600/23 Jun 2016. It was very clear that the turmoil wouldn't be resolved quickly after the PM announced his intention to move on later that morning. ITV could and imo should have extended the run. It's not as if the remaining business isn't important either, the Trident renewal vote is later this month.

I think Committment is a perfectly acceptable term to use in the circumstances.

The problem is were at a standstill.... everything has been put on the back burner, Tory and labour leaderships will be dealt with until September. There could extend the run and just talk about nothing.

Its not like the Scottish Ref which back in 2014, was the reason why STV and BBC kept alot of stuff running it was only 8 weeks left and the TV debates were just about to get going.

Maybe Preston will come back early? ie late August.

There are also some practical things about extending the run such as studio hire and annual leave. You can't just flick a switch and keep broadcasting.

This is what I was thinking, it seems too simplistic to say that ITV "could and should" have extended the run unless the possibility had been factored into the production in the first place
