I'll start things off...
I heard last night that Sky News's Rachael Ammatt has left, to join Channel 4 News.
I think she is one of Sky's best reporters, and can only imagine she has been poached to beef up C4's woeful pool of reporters who can handle live breaking stories.
Wasn't Nick Owen's current Midlands Today co-anchor, Suzanne Virdee, a CNwest presenter/reporter (minor bulletins etc, not main/anchor etc) for a
very
brief time, just before joining MT???
Fred Dienage (sp?) is possibly the Patron Saint of Jumping Ship (from Southern, to TVS, to Meridian, thus staying on ITV1 Southampton news forever)!!!
Unless anyone else knows of a better candidate for Patron Saint of Jumping Ship????
I'd hardly call moving to the new franchisee jumping ship
F*CK OFF!
So, you wouldn't be inclined to use the phrase "jumping ship" for quite the same things as I would. So f*cking what? I'm entitled to regard an ITV franchise jump as "jumping ship" if I want to.
It's a fairly ambiguous phrase, so - to a certain extent - there's no right and wrong. Respect my opinion, and I'll respect yours.
MORE IMPORTANTLY: You criticising my defininitions of "jumping ship" does NOT constitute a WORTHWHILE contribution to this thread, on your part.
If you have something to say about a presenter who has "jumped ship", then THAT is what this thread is about!

Well, you're perfectly entitled to your (narrow) opinion.
I'd say that all of the following can be descibed by the phrase "jumping ship":
1: Jumping channels, either with or without simultaneously changing regions.
2: Jumping regions, either with or without simultaneously changing channels.
3: Jumping between nation/local news, either with or without simultaneously changing channels.
4: Jumping through an ITV franchise change within one region (e.g. from TVS to Meridain).
I've seen example 4 described as "jumping ship" before (possibly on the Russnet/ITV Crossover website, I think), so poo to you, Steve.
Ohmygod grow up, would you? I joined this forum ages ago, and really enjoy reading it, but hardly ever post because of petty little arguments like this one. Does it matter?
Anyway, on a kind of related note, I saw a report from Bill Neely on News 24 during the Iraq war, and was wondering what this was all about. To all the nitpickers, I am perfectly aware that Bill Neely did not "jump ship" or anything of the sort. Just wondering what his report was doing on the BBC. Anyone know?

Some reports from Iraq were pooled, so BBC, ITN, and Sky correspondents could occasionally be seen on the other channels.

Fair enough. Probably should have guessed that. Thanks!
Both Anne Davies and Dominic Heale went to East Midlands Today from Central News East, didn't they?
And a 'biggie', Christa Ackroyd moving from Calendar to Look North in Leeds....
No - Anne Davies jumped ship from GMTV, I thought, but I don't live in the East.
Can anyone confirm this?
Quote from TV Ark:

until her move to GMTV. Anne co-presented the very first programme on 1st January 1993. She stayed with GMTV, now just a newsreader until early 2001.
Anne followed Dominic Heale and headed for BBC East Midlands Today, replacing Kathy Rochford as the main co-presenter.
