Do weather forecasters actually work for the tv company they work at or are they employed by the Met Office?

Depends who it is. Most are Met in the BBC, some are freelance presenters.

I find this thread hilarious.

Don't know anything about Look North, but apparently their main presenter's leaving too- someone called Helen Fospero.

I'm sure everyone in the know knows that already- hope this doesn't spark pages of weeping, crying and hysteria over regional TV presenters.

Oh, here's the link if you don't believe me.

[and again sorry if this has already been posted, just thought the main presenter leaving has got to be worth more comedy posts than just the weatherman]

Yep already been mentioned in the Y&L thread and the Massacre in the Regions thread, but we won't hold that against you!

Don't Met people usually get thrown out of the BBC for committing one of two possible crimes -

(a) being too old (ie over 10)

(b) refusing to work unreasnoble shift patterns.

Poor old Dorcus got chucked off BBC Southampton for meeting both of the above criteria!

If the team is that large i dont see why each region cant have its own dedicated weather presenter 5 days per week?

Probably because they are all well liked across each region, there would be an uproar from Jo Blythe fans if she only did Granada for example.

I guess, but I do think its better though when the presenter is in the studio. I like the Tyne Tees set up with the Weather Village.

I can't stand the Leeds team - I turn the TV off as soon as they come on. Kerrie Gosney spends more time on the national maps than regional maps, none of them do the place names, no unusual features, no sub-regional maps, totally predicatable and uninteresting.

As I've said before, it's so bad that I'd prefer Paul Mooney's flying turkey forecasts. Laughing

I knew about being too old (which shge isn't old at all!!) but what are these unreasonable shift patterns- 1.40pm and 6.50pm therefore twice a day and only weekdays!?

Do I take it you've had confirmation then Katherine?

Well, the first seeds of suspicion sown when I e-mailed Harry Gration to see if these rumours were true, but he said he's been told not to say anything about it. I e-mailed another person about it and he simply said 'I think you'll be shocked'. Also, when I told my dad about what Harry had said, dad said that was a bad omen. I've pretty much accepted it now.

Still don't believe it. Surely if he was leaving he would have been removed immediately. Considering he was on Friday's Look North bantering as ever it still seems far fetched. Plus if it is true, why would it be only in the Sheffield Star but not Bradford's Telegraph & Argus or the Yorkshire (Evening) Post

this story is absolute nonsense - the Sheffield star is in dangerous legal waters

i have it on good authority that the story is not nonsense, changes may no occur immediately, but when contracts end and notice periods have been worked, expect to see changes.

If anyone's able to, could they purchase a copy of the Keighley News to see if information's filtered through to there? If this is going to happen, then surely Paul's home town must know something. How quickly would it appear on the BBC's Press Office part of the website?

How long is a piece of string? They will tell us when they want us to know, ie when it's most convienient for them.
Wonder if Peter Levy will present the News and Weather all by himself if/when Paul goes? Confused He seems quite happy as a one man band, or is it just the pound signs that are lighting up his eyes???
