Al Qaeda have announced the death of OBL on their website and via other known Jihaadist outlets. Will this quell the rumours that he's still alive? Is there still a need to debate the publication of the alleged photographs? I think this story (OBL's death specifically) will go away in a few days, but will make room for a potentially harmful resultant uprising in Pakistan, where the nation is up in arms about how the USA trampled all over their land and government to take out OBL.

Back to the news coverage of the story: the link with Lyse Doucet on The Hub has just given way. Today's satellite and telephone links with Pakistan have been particularly troublesome and poor quality.

On the BBC, well done Babita! I've lost all skepticism for her ability - vey calm, composed and factual. CNN on the other hand, the less said the better. Why put on American Morning around the world to presumably bump World One? Now we've got disjointed coverage that is being 'branded' as World One from Hala Gorani in Atlanta.

Just saw this post now. Fully agree. Babita Sharma has now become one of my favourite news presenters.

I merely question the squeamishness of Chie, given he had watched more graphic imagery.

The more graphic imagery being...two burning buildings and a few dozen people covered in dust.

Right.

Whatever.

Oh my God, Richie.

What are you oh my godding for now? He just said the media coverage of 9/11 was "more graphic" than Osama Bin Laden's photo. It wasn't, and as far as I'm concerned, that's the end of the matter.

You're consistently belligerent and combative

There was nothing belligerent or combative in anything I said.

That's simply your interpretation of anyone who holds a view different to your own, and it's rather tiresome.

Going off-topic for some light relief, the Have I Got News For You team seem to have added their own nod to recent events by restoring the original Obama animation - where he scores with the basketball, rather than the ball bouncing off the hoop.

Amongst those who don't want to believe it, no. The fact is that Al Qaeda is a very loose knit 'organisation', there's no 'alqaeda.com' or any official identifiable channel from them to the public. I'm sure the reaction from those questioning the death will be that the announcement could be from anywhere, especially those who don't know arabic.

However what there is of Al Qaeda does have the key to any conspiracy. If OBL is still alive then all they have to do to embarrass the US is to prove otherwise... and that's quite easy!

The home videos of bin Laden are now being shown on the News channel.

Incidentally, at the start of video 2, you can see that Bin Laden's TV has his channels organised by favourites. 1st favourite: Al Jazeera. 2nd Favourite: BBC Arabic.

Interesting he watched the BBC. Also interesting he rates the BBC higher than AlArabiya, classed as a 'Westernised' Arabic news channel. Still, its highly popular in the Mid East.

Yes, interesting to see what he had there. No MTV or Men & Motors as far as I can see though

I notice BBC World on that image. Better not tell the Daily Telegraph
