President Obama has decided not to release the photos. The right decision, in my opinion.

Whether they'll never be released remains to be seen, I'm certain they will be made public at some point, either officially or leaked.

I reckon Bush, would have released them.

But Bush thank goodness isn't the president.

I don't wish to see them. However there should be a medium for them for those who need to see the evidence with their own eyes. I would not like to see a screenshot of his head blown off on the TOTH or the front page of the nationals. The best way to do this would be on a pay to view to website with all proceeds going to a charitable organisation.

If the photos are as graphic as has been suggested by sources to US news networks, then I think that British media would have had a tough decision on whether they'd even show them. Their display would certainly be very limited.

My personal opinion: the public doesn't need to see them. If people don't believe that he's dead, then these won't convince them. The US has no obligation to feed people's curiosity, morbid or otherwise.

Valid point. However the US will be damned if they do and damned if they don't.
If they are to published it needs to be in the most sensitive way possible as in not thrust in our faces. Either way it is only going to inflame the anger that the Jihadists have towards us even more.
Let the conspiracies commence. I heard he's going to be working in the same chippy as Michael Jackson, Lady Di and Elvis or did I mishear that and that he's gone fishing.. ( the mind boggles) < cheeky grin>

The best thing to do would be to release the photos but ban it from having any prominence in the worldwide media with no television broadcasts at all. By that I mean a small photo on page 14 rather than tabloids allowing it to take up the entire front page.

I'm not sure most of the British media would show it anyway, it would end up as more of an internet viral/'specialist' website I think.

You can't censor the media like this (you know, freedom of the press and all that). Either you release the photos and let various media outlets decide for themselves how to handle it, or you don't release them at all -- which is probably the better choice.

In most other circumstances I'd agree with you, but this is a bit more of a sensitive issue and it would be completely inappropriate for it to make up the front cover of The Sun which you just know will happen. But I don't think it needs releasing at all, that's just if pressure mounts which I imagine it will do. Alternatively they could release some video footage instead without getting too graphic. Did the Saddam footage ever make it into the mainstream media or has that always remained rather low key?

As I recall, the mainstream media showed the moments leading up to Saddam's demise and froze the picture just before he dropped through the gallows floor. Although I think the footage was leaked as opposed to being officially released?

As awful as some of the papers are, I'd give them more credit than that. Rolling Eyes
