Its worth remembering that with the 10 year anniversary coming up, the lead presenters are likely to be shipped out to NY. Perhaps sending them now will lend consistency to the upcoming memorial stuff.

Just a thought.

Anyone else itching to see this picture of OBL? Not that I'm particularly fond of the gruesome, but I am curious.

What was the photo of the 'dead' OBL that Sky News was showing on Monday morning?

EDIT: Oh, it was this one. http://www.euronews.net/2011/05/02/dead-bin-laden-photo-is-a-fake/

That was a fake composite image of OBL and a wounded guy's face broadcast on middle east TV.

Google image 'dead obl', if you really want to see it.

No*. Are you not watching the news today? The Americans have acknowledged they have stills pictures (which are described as "bloody and gruesome"), but they're trying to decide whether publishing them will inflame current tensions. The official line is that showing them won't silence conspiracy theorists, nor will showing DNA results.

I think its inevitable that they will show them - and I actually think its been planned that they will announce his death, wait to see the response from the Muslim community, and then will publish the images.

* The picture doing the rounds was a poorly made mock up that was circulating the net 3 years ago - and I saw that the first time around.

The photos won't do anything to appease conspiracy theorists, they'll just say the photos are fake like they always do.

I'm pretty sure I covered all of what you just said in my post.

Conspiracy theorists could have been there at the time of the shooting or even go and find his body (which I wouldn't put past someone to do) and they'd still deny it. I do want to see the photos though but just out of morbid curiosity.

Just like with everything, conspiracy theorists won't be happy whatever evidence they have. Look at the whole 'birther' nonsense - they've been after the 'long form birth certificate' since he was elected and now it's public some are still not happy.

I'm sure the photos will be released at some point, the moment they acknowledged their existence they had no choice but to make them public. I'm intrigued to see them although I have quite a high threshold for such gruesome images

I believe Obama....EDIT: Osama was killed by the navy seals but I also think it is important that there are doubters especially in News. For no one to question this and other events then we would constantly believe what we are being told...which isnt always true. Even though many on here will dismiss the conspiracy theorists and doubters it is always vital in the media that there is an alternative viewpoint to stories such as this.

I was agreeing with the official line, which you happened to mention in your post.

In any case, I really don't think the world needs to see pictures of OBL brain matter.

I'm not doubting that a different viewpoint is needed, and indeed with their reluctance to release the photos of courrse people will question whether it happened or not. The issue in question is that when we do have solid proof, those who have already decided that it didn't happen will stand by their view point and come up with an explanation of why or how the proof has been falsified.

Personally I don't need the proof, I genuinely believe it happened because the American government wouldn't lie about it and they know that Bin Laden will eventually make a new video, so the integrity of the American government would be put on the line and would become a complete laughing stock.

President Obama has decided not to release the photos. The right decision, in my opinion.
