The One O'Clock News gets the highest rates on daytime tv - so should it really face the axe? Could the one instead be extended to a full hour to replace neighbours? What do you think?

No, because like you say, it has the highest ratings. Why get rid of something that's popular. I wouldn't extend it either.

Confused Shocked Rolling Eyes etc

What the hell has prompted this question? Your implication is that plans to axe the One have been announced. But we have heard no such news. If you have, then state so, and quote a source!

Nope personally I would like it to stay as it is but wiki was saying it was expected to get the axe, so I wanted to know what others thought.

When will people learn that Wikipedia isn't the bible.

The only changes planned for the One o'clock News will see it be more of a programme made for News 24 rather than BBC1 - but as News 24 is moving into the national news room from next year, on screen there will probably be very few noticeable changes. The only indication so far confirmed is that the bulletins will probably have less recorded reports and more - or extended - two-way live interviews.

Yes but equally when someone or something says it's expected it isn't fact - and as clearly someone believes it could be axed I wanted to know what TVF members thought - whether they agree or not about whether YOU THINK it should, not on whether you think it will.

And if Wiki told you that everybody was expected to jump off a cliff by the end of the week, would you go and jump off a cliff tomorrow?

Wikipedia is a popular project with good intentions. However as with anything that can be edited by any member of the public with a Wiki account, one has to take things from it with a pinch of salt. It's like the Internet Movie Database which is also use-driven - the credits might be right, but the trivia sections could be all made up.

Wikipedia is only good for a general background. Don't ever treat anything on there as fact unless there's a source. Reach for the Stars, anyone?

There seems to be a certain generation on internet forums that believe anything. For example on DS someone has posted "I heard today that Matt and Emma are going to host I'm a Celebrity's main ITV1 show last year, what do you think" No source whatsoever.
Only one person queried it, everyone else took it as the truth and discussed what a bad decision it was

An entry on Wikipedia is therefore 110% correct for these people

AIUI, many British universities now urge students not to use Wikipedia to support academic writing because it is not considered to be a credible source. Let's face it, anyone can edit any page on the website. Unless something is published by an expert in a particular field or by a reputable organisation, then I'd take it with a huge pinch of salt. Whilst browsing Wikipedia myself, I have frequently discovered factual errors.

Going back to the topic in hand, I personally feel the One can only benefit from having more live material than pre recorded. At least we will then be getting an up to date report of the situation rather than a report filed 2 or so hours ago. As for it becoming more of a News 24 production rather than its own programme, to be honest i dont think as viewers we will notice much difference as The One and News 24 both sing from the same hymn sheet at the end of the day!
