Didn't we have the same rumours doing the rounds regarding the Ten O'Clock News not so long ago?

Not in the same volume, and not as causing as much concern within the BBC. Politically the Ten O'Clock News is far more important than the One...

Slightly OT but The One O'Clock News will have been on for 18 years on Wednesday. (Originally came on screen at 1pm on Monday October 27th 1986, and Neighbours will have also been on for 18 years)

Well thats in intresting fact for a tv anorack such as myself to know. Me and the One O'Clock News are EXACTLY the same age Razz

Back to saving money instead of the usual "One" why not just have an exteneded daytime summery, just using the CSO in the national studio, but not powering the national studio up fully.

The studio facilities required for a CSO summary and a full bulletin are pretty similar - you don't save money in studio facilities by using CSO or making a shorter programme unless you can share the staff elsewhere.

The bigger cost saving is not having two production teams making a similar programme...

HOWEVER the important thing to remember is that the One O'Clock News actually makes a 30 minute programme - News 24 don't currently. They are re-running reports from Breakfast, with very few new edited reports until they start re-running reports from the One O'Clock News, with live interviews, business reports and sport reports taking up the slack.

The new simulcast would still need to produce a number of edited reports - that the One currently produce - so the saving may not be as big as many people think... News 24 usually only produce one or two edited reports an hour - and have no location reporters editing reports in the normal scheme of things. N24 would have to massively bump up their production arm - re-creating a group of producers and reporters currently working on the One... There would be some savings - but not as great as might first appear.

Without the production operation of the One, News 24 wouldn't have many new edited reports between Breakfast and the Six... They would have to produce material themselves.

That's right, because nothing has changed at the BBC since the 1990s, Greg Dyke achieved nothing during his tenure, and programmes appear on your TV by magic.

Tsk at BBC LDN.

Everyone *knows* that nothing has changed at the BBC since 1910.

Isn't this the sort of story that emerges, causes a big fuss. Then when the BBC finally announces a slimmed down One with less resources everybody says "What a relief - at least they didn't axe it completely".
Or am I being overly cynical?

Well after looking at the Weather Man's mocks for The World at One - I think we should abandon the current format and do something like that.

O.K it would be a lot of money, but something a bit different as well.

I also think it should be duel presented from London and America in fact lets throw in Australia as well. Twisted Evil

It should be sixty minutes long, but a little different.

Arrow Regional Anouncement should be:
"This is BBC One with the latest News, Sport, Weather and Business, from our Reporters and correspondents accross, Yorkshire, Britain and around the World. It's One O'Clock"

Arrow BOOM : Headline Sequence comes in, with mixed vision of VT's and of Presenter. With the Same colour scheme accross all of the sets and the regions - well nearly similar.

I'd suggest the headline sequence would be:

2 Main stories followed by 2 UK National stories presented from London by ford, then of to the regions for 3 regional stories, then two stories from from the States area presented by Jordan (not the model unfortatly) and then off to erm, JaneHill in Sydney for the Asia-pacific headlines.

Then off to a 15 second title sequence played out from the regions, which will say something along the lines of "The World at One Presented by, Anna Ford, (Local presenter), JORDAN and Jane Hill" and features a mixture of local landmarks, worldwide landmarks.

Then off to Anna in London. Where we spend a good 15 minutes, then we go to part one of local news so we go to the regions for 7 minutes long. Then to the stock markets for two minute reports. Then we go to America for ten minutes of news surrounding that side of the pond. Then we re-join London for a recap of all the main headlines by Ford. Then off to Jane Hill for the latest news happening in the southern hemisthere. Then Jane introduces part two of the Local news for five minutes. The regions then introduce a second business update of two minutes. The Business unit then introduces the weather. The national weather team, then introduce the local weather team, then Back to Ford where she's joined for the latest sport by someone from the sports team. A one minute recap of all the regional stories then a two miunute National recap.

Then Neighbours.

I think i've got way to much free time on my hands.

Yes, excellent idea. And this will, of course, be totally fit for purpose, as it will achieve the aims of the initial strategy, by SAVING THE BBC LOTS OF MONEY BY SIMULCASTING N24 AND BBC 1 FOR A FEW HOURS............surely having three presenters dotted around the globe, and all the technology involved will be MUCH cheaper than having the annoying Liz Pike doing the same thing from N24 studios?????

Dispense with the 1 altogether and have a N24 simulcast using the exisiting N24 newscasters.

Transfer Ford to the Ten, and get rid of pompous Edwards. Bring in Moira alongside Anna on the Ten, and hey presto, what do you have?? A double header news bulletin at Ten O'clock, presented by people whom the UK viewing public actually likes and can identify with.

ITN and Sky would lose viewers to the "Ten O'clock News, from the BBC, with Anna Ford and Moira Stuart".

I also too must have too much time on me hands.............................

If they started a programme called that they should carry over the abbreviation the radio version has: T.W.A.T.O Laughing

Where did that extra T come from as in ...A. T .O
Usually they would just say "world at one"

Well it would be fun if we could do it.

Re: T.W.A.T (O) - no need to be rude....

I think it would be a great diverse program, featuring a cross pool of news. Which is important!
