It's a few days late, but anyway...

On the day the election was announced, the One was broadcast on News 24, with Maxine and Matthew doing headlines in place over the regional slot. If the BBC were trying to make cuts in news and replace the One with a N24 simulcast (is this still going ahead?), couldn't they do this for the three main bulletins (as the ITV NC does) with the N24 duty presenters taking over at the end of the bulletin? They could either slip out from weather (the One and Six) or from the last report on the Ten and continue on, or the presenter in N6 could record an ending (a la BBC One, but handing over to News 24). Any thoughts?

They've also done this alot recently with the 10, having both channel take the same feed from Rome until Headline opt-out and then News 24 returning for more coverage while the National continues with other news.....

They ought to have a simulcast - all though on the whole I prefer the N24 presenters to the national ones - and if there is breaking news, a press conference or a developing story then opt-out and cover it.

A simulcast wouldn't actualy save that much money/resourses though.

A lot of the packages you see in the afternoon on News 24 are the ones made for the 1 o'clock news. If the News 24 and BBC1 1 o'clock bulletins were merged these items would still need to be produced

As Inspector has said it would save very little money doing it that way round. The only reason it's happened recently is a resources/competitive one ... for example to serve all the outlets at one pm on the day of the Pope's funeral would have needed three correspondents for N24, World and BBC One ... as Huw was presenting in Rome it was much easier to throw all the effort into the one bulletin which everyone took.
