Here in the 'home' region, Suzanne & Mike Collie(Is there cricket at Edgbaston, seeing there was no Nick ?) were out on the canal side & they linked straight in with a tracking shot back towards the mailbox, then cut to network feed of Ade & Nadia.
Ade then linked back to the regions, with Suzanne back in the main studio standing up by the screen with national & regional update together, complete with 'Midlands Today News Update' slide & Shefali on the balcony with national & regional weather updates.
(This is what they should do with the 'normal' 655 arrangement, instead of going back to London. If the Nations could do it, why couldn't English Regions?)
in NI there was a Newsline update with short titles before we got to see Donna in the Newsroom with Rose Neil clearly working. One main report, a few reads followed by national and international news with a Newsline rumble underneath, before 45 seconds of weather and then straight to BBC ONE red programme slide.
It seemed ok, only thing was it doesn't have an ending, it just fades out, no end sting or anything but this probably would change soon enough.
I don't understand the point of leaving the headlines until after the show. Why can't they just do it like they normally do and have them at 6.55?
Because they are trying to retain/inherit the regional news audience - hence the straight handover from the regions, rather than headlines/goodbye/normal junction
Well this is what i'd change for what it's worth... i think this could work quite well, just needs a bit of tinkering in my opinion.
Scrap the 7.25 headlines/weather forecast. It just seems out of place - The One Show has little to do with the news so it feels wrong there. Just have the headlines briefly before the regional news hands over to The One Show. During the regional news i'd have an insert telling viewers what's coming up on The One Show later. I'd also put a break in between the national and regional news - i dont know why but i dont really like 3 shows all being linked together like that.
I don't really like the set - mainly because it's too small. It would be better if they could walk around a bit, have a screen to link to Kate Humble etc, have an area for interviews etc. It didnt help having the sun shining in the window today - but i dont like them just sitting there for half an hour. I think it should be a bit more energetic than that. I guess a bigger studio isn't available at the mailbox though.
Narrow the focus just slightly - it just seems a bit too broad at the mo. I'd like it to be a bit more reactive to events - not necessarily hard news, just the things people are talking about today.
I'd replace Nadia Sawalha with someone else - but i think it suit's Adrian Chiles brilliantly.
I think it's quite brave of the BBC to do this and I think it may work if it was seasonal. Being on week in week out wouldn't work unless they intergrated the show into both the national news and local news. Not too keen on the cheap set though and The ONE Show is a really stupid title.
I loved the link from Points West into the programme though and the "national and local" news & weather. Unlike ITV, the BBC is letting the regions do more and more of late.
I myself hate Emmerdale with a passion so a bit of fluffy topical stuff suits me just fine at 7pm. I'd must prefer a decent gameshow or sitcom mind you!
I liked the rather funny report into smelly feet on trains type thing. Like Adrian. Nadia or whatever her name is should go back to daytime tv. Sorry. Shes soo namby pamby lol.

On Look North they did tell us what was coming up on The One Show, did everyone else do this?
It was about a subtle as a sledgehammer on Look North though, Christa says "Remember to stay tuned at 6.55 for The One Show where tonight....", she then launched into loads of detail of what was coming up, you could tell she was just reading it off the autocue and had no real interest what Kate Humble was up to. It would probably be better if there was a filmed insert from Adrian and Nadia
