The OFFICIAL newsreaders with beards thread

Okay, just an excuse to post this tremendous photo...

It's featured in his autobiography. Apparently he'd grown it when he was away, and was about to go on air with it. In the end he got cold feet at the last minute and shaved it off just before going on. I'm not normally a fan of beards, but I think it rather suits him and makes him look quite distinguished.

So how many newsreaders with beards are there still on our screens? Andy Kluz from Tyne Tees is the only one I can think of.

I remember Ken Rees a beardie news reporter but can't remember if he read the local news.

Not a newsreader, so already this thread is going off track, but I remember the ITV Weather presenter Martyn Davies had a beard for a brief time before his bosses advised him that he had a beaver on his face.

I've read news, albeit on radio, where the beard isn't so noticeable.

Jim Clancy of CNNI used to have one. He now doesn't though. Also, doesn't Robin Lustig who presents on BBC World have one?

In my native Scotland, Alan Douglas (one time anchor of BBC Reporting Scotland) was famous for having a beard (he still has it, maybe). He is married to Viv Lumsden, fellow news anchor......

Didn't Richard Whitmore have one for a while as well, on BBC News After Noon.........

Also, Keith Graves, former BBC Middle East Man, and part time BBC TV newscaster, also has a beard. He is now with Sky News, I think.......

Jeremy Bowen used to have something hanging around his face too.

That is providing you don't sit too close to the air conditioning vent, or you get a rustling noise.

I heard her beard is a template for making normal scripts into doileys in seconds.

Michael 'and that's the news for the moment' Murphy of RTÉ News had a rather distinguished beard - always very neat and suited him very well. Sadly missed as he was an excellent newsreader
