You can't base how a party should be represented based upon the 2010 elections alone. If you know a party's support is growing, then giving them more airtime is the logical thing to do.

Not if they, like most people, know that UKIP is simply a protest vote and the only reason people are aware of the party is through constant media appearances on the BBC.

If you honestly think that everyone voting for UKIP is doing it "in protest", then the brainwashing has worked, as it were.

Well not everyone is voting in protest, some people probably do think that Britain would be better off without JSA, the NHS, the BBC, Maternity Leave, the EU, Equality Legislation, the Human Rights Act, Tiered Income Tax, the CPS, Climate Change Legislation and Nigel Farage as Prime-Minister but the fact that you are calling me some kind of 'brainwashed moron' isn't exactly helping. The fact of the matter is people are disillusioned with the Westminster Three, particularly the Coalition parties, so are turning to alternatives such as UKIP to make a protest that the Main Three parties aren't standing up for the common people (even though UKIP is more for the Upper Classes than the Tories who at least don't want everyone earning over £11,000 to be paying 35% Income Tax and they haven't yet advocated scrapping JSA). All of which would decrease our GDP by about 5-10% and UKIP's economic plan would put our Budget Deficit £200bn higher than it is now.

If there were that many far-right people in this country how come the BNP hasn't got a surge in popularity or the National Front or the Christian Party (to be fair UKIP is technically more Right-Wing than the BNP). It's simply UKIP makes the largest waves, has a leader who is a character on a par with Boris, is better at hiding their actual policies from the public and who thus get more airtime which leads to an increase in support which leads to more airtime which leads to more support and so on - if you gave Nick Griffin more airtime and stopped asking him difficult questions, like the BBC do to Nigel Farage, the BNP support would go up. It's not a coincidence that UKIP Popularity has a 'lag-time' relationship with the increase in airtime they have been getting.

Reading that rambling mess leads me to believe you know a lot less about politics than you think. UKIP isn't "technically more Right-Wing" than the BNP - the three traditional political parties and UKIP are all more right wing than the BNP in the traditional sense (which only takes into account economics). UKIP are in line with the Conservatives economically; the BNP are centrist economically, which is in line with their neo-fascism. UKIP are not far right; the BNP is not right wing.

I would like to point out that I never called you a "brainwashed moron", but merely pointed out that the rhetoric has actually wormed its way into your brain, and manifested itself as "fact", in a similar manner to brainwashing.

Reading that rambling mess leads me to believe you know a lot less about politics than you think. Political Positioning is based on Three things Legal, Economic and Social Policy.
PARTY Legal Policy Economic Policy Social Policy
Conservative Mod-Right Right Right Right
Labour Centrist Mod-Right Centrist Centrist
Labour (TB) Centrist Right Centrist Moderately Right
Lib Dems Centrist Right Mod-Right Centrist Right
Green Left Left Left Left
UKIP Far-Right Right Far-Right Far-Right
BNP Far-Right Centrist Far-Right Right

Other Policies such as Science (of which UKIP practically doesn't believe in) and Political Reform don't generally come into account however out of the main 8 parties (CON,LAB,LD,GRN,SNP,PC,UKIP,BNP) UKIP is the furthest right and if you listen to some of the quotes of some of their MEPs they are definitely on the Far-Right.

You implied, I inferred.

I'm going to try and not reply to your reply as it is clear that we can't agree given that we are clearly on other ends of the Political Spectrum.

Am I right in thinking UKIP have more support nationwide whereas Green Party support is more concentrated in specific locations, most notably Brighton? It's not an easy situation for broadcasters

Exactly UKIP national is a far bigger party with over 200 local councillors.

Yes they are but UKIP put simply is for many just a protest vote, .

You could have said the exact same thing about the Lib Dems previously. A vote is a vote

Rolling Eyes Yes they got those 200 local seats from media appearances on the BBC........
Parties get more coverage as they grow nationally.

Point taken but Local Councillors don't really have much power do they and so generally aren't reflected in the parties genuine support and are often mid-term dissatisfied votes.

The difference with the Liberal Democrats is that many of their supporters probably could tell you some of their policies where as other than leave the EU and 'something' about immigration, not many UKIP supporters could tell you any genuine policies. That is how I would define a protest vote - the difference between knowing policy and not knowing policy.

I didn't imply, you mistakenly inferred.

If you wish to know where I am on the political spectrum, I am a slightly left of centre moderate libertarian.

Sorry but all this and your definition of a protest vote doesn't matter one bit. The party has growing support (whether it's a protest or a flash in the pan doesn't matter)and broadcasters have to reflect that. I think you're just blinded by your hate for UKIP.
