North Today?

Some quite odd opening titles were used at the start of lunchtime Look North (Yorkshire) today

The footage of places featured included Leeds, Sheffield, Hull and Manchester, and instead of place names animating around, it said ‘North Today’ instead (the endboard still said Look North)

Also Luxmy said that viewers in East Yorks & Lincs were also with us this lunchtime

Their top story was about the Lincolnshire coast and was linked to the Tier 3 restrictions in South Yorkshire, so it definitely sounds preplanned, perhaps a trial for a future permanently merged lunchtime programme? Interesting they name checked who'd be presenting both regions 6:30pm programmes at the end too.

They definitely looked like emergency titles for if either Manchester or Hull couldn't opt - presumably North Today to try and cover off the North West Today audience!

They didn’t cover Manchester. North West Today still went ahead. Maybe Leeds and hull will just merge ?

What exactly would they need to trial?

North Today has a ring to it

The North Today name might be a remnant of a possible contingency plan in condensing the regions from the start of the pandemic. So if things got very bad operationally, they’d just combine certain regions together. In that respect, Newcastle may have joined them.

Seems more planned; the weather map was both regions.
