Look North is still using the really bad text-only astons. What are the other regions using?

We in Look North Yorkshire are getting a normal late bulletin, complete with graphics on the screen!

That's odd. I wonder why Look North NE are not using their normal graphics then? Confused

I flicked through all the regions on Sky at 6:30 - and NE&C were the only region not using their normal graphics

Did you see the astons they were using?!? They are shockingly bad. They look like something from the 1980's.

Pebble Mill - king of bodged graphics - have done better in the 1980s!

Looking at the 6:30 Look North NE and the 10:30 I think the astons are burned onto the actual reports as they are in the same position on the reports on each edition of the programme.

There wasn't a Reporting Scotland at 6.30 anyway. There was something else on in it's place.

There was, Gaz. It only lasted five minutes though. The presenter was the same guy as last time (Stephen Duffy, I think).

Well the astons use BigTED 3. BigTED originated in the early 1990s by working in ENPS"]BASYS* (now ENPS). The reporter would enter the information into BigTED and an in and out time and then BigTED would then act as a frontend to the Aston CG/Paintbox systems. So it could be they are generated live.

World News America with Jane O'Brien being simulcast now on World and NC, complete with World News DOG - is this live or the edition broadcast earlier?

It's changed back to the NC DOG now...must be the broadcast from 9pm I think.

BBC NI didn't do a 10:25 bulletin.

BBC NC ticker saying the News International adverts are appearing in Friday's newspapers.

Yep - and if it is usual for journalists to do this at their desktop, and the journalists have been replaced by managers...

How do these strikes affect international workers? Are the teams in places like Singapore and Washington directly affected? I ask because I don't know how international the NUJ are, or how international such strikes would be. I'm assuming they're mainly national?

I think if they're employed by BBC World News, their contracts are with BBC Worldwide Ltd. and so the compulsory redundancies won't affect them, or at least that is how I understand it.

Gavin Grey has proven himself to be an excellent presenter. I do hope he gets himself a position as a relief presenter on the NC.

Just a shame he's a scab.

Welcome to the 1980's.
Or perhaps you wanted to say 'Just a shame he's a non-union member'
