Got to say that whilst I support their right to strike it makes it difficult to conduct interviews with leaders of other unions about public sector cuts from a neutral position.
(and for the record I am a member of a public sector union)
It's worth pointing out that this is solely the NUJ taking action. The other big broadcasting union BECTU isn't in dispute over this issue. Last time this happened it provided difficult decisions for Unionised non-NUJ members over whether to cross NUJ picket lines. The last NUJ strike had limited effect on-air IIRC.
15th and 29th. Both on Fridays with a fortnight's gap.
A fortnight to allow for talks, or a fortnight for impact? Doesn't strike me this is an issue the unions can really win (at least without directly lobbying government, who are ultimately responsible for the decisions here), but nevertheless I'd support such action as a sign of protest and respect for those who will ultimately lose their jobs.
