Can someone tell me what the Election logo is supposed to represent?

R for Remain and L for Leave... it wouldn't have taken much to turn it into an N and an I.

Thought it was the same as the bbc used for the English local elections last year. As in "L" for "Local".

I don't recall it, but I misremembered how the R and L featured in the EU referendum logo. I think that Local Elections used the General Election 2015 logo, didn't they?

The News Channel back with BBC Northern Ireland now. No attempt at an opt-in point on either occasion this evening - crashing into the NI coverage with Mark Carruthers providing a welcome to NC viewers within a few minutes of joining.

The referendum logo was changed following the result iirc.

Yes, with a small L in the centre cube.

Nice to see the programme extended to precisely 00:37, with the highlights reel full of funny faces, vocal slip-ups, and Blockbusters references.

Seems that, with only a few seats left to declare, and judging by Mark Carruthers's sign-off, that BBC NI are not bothering with their Saturday morning TV coverage. Mark only trailed the 9am Radio Ulster programme and online.

UTV still on air from 10.20am.

The BBC may regret their decision to come off air - there could be a big, and very significant, shock on the cards in South Belfast.

BBC Northern Ireland said a very brief farewell to news channel viewers and allowed about half a second for them to opt out, so that must have been a clumsy opt.

I'm not aware of the history of NI vote counts but do they normally go on through the night? BBC Northern Ireland, who up until the point they came off air, had provided excellent coverage that even I as someone who knows little of the background to the vote could follow. Falling off the air to make way for Meet The Fockers was unfortunate, but they would have had to keep going until 3am or so to get the last result. If they didn't know the counting was going to continue then they presumably wouldn't have guests ready to keep discussion going until that point.

It is unfortunate though that, given network coverage of the elections has been woeful given their potential implications, NI fell off the air on TV and radio. Twitter was an absolute godsend, in terms of following people who knew what they were on about to get the final results and in terms of the little packages they put together on the election.

In the end, the last few results didn't prove as significant as they could have been. Although overall this is the most significant political result here since 1998.

This is the first Assembly Election count which has been completed within one day - albeit it was a late night. Usually there are at least 30-40% of seats still to be filled on the second day of the count, but with the remaining constituencies at a very late stage of their counts it made sense to keep going last night.

Overall very impressive coverage from BBC NI - 12 hours straight with breaks only for the Six and Ten. There's been alot of criticism of the network coverage of NI politics recently but with a big change in the set-up here, the potential for protracted negotiations, Brexit and possible constitutional questions, this part of the world may start to make a bigger impact UK-wide. The challenge for the national outlets will be to educate people into the complexities of NI politics which still exist, and which have been largely forgotten since 1998.

Double post, but . . .

With all the seats declared, kudos to UTV for going ahead with what is essentially now a 3-hour analysis programme. Thought they might have shortened it to just a one-hour slot this morning.

Having a certain professional interest in it (ahem) I watched most of the BBC NI coverage, and thought it was excellent... the Mark C, Tara, Mark D team is a great mix. I didn't see any of the UTV coverage yesterday, but I have to say they are doing a great job of the analysis of the situation today.

Was it the usual setup of Clark and Mallett across opposite sides of studio 1?

Yes.
