... am I right in remembering that the BBC and UTV announcements into each Party Election Broadcast were pre-recorded, I think it was John Ashe announcing into BBC NI's showings and, sadly, Audra Thomas voicing the UTV intros/outros.

No... and... I don't know.

BBC NI announcements at the top and tail of each PEB were performed live by the person on duty.

Thanks for confirming what the BBC did last time around, Denton - for some reason, I had the idea only one announcer intro'd and outro'd PEBs, if not in 2003, one year - and that John Ashe did the honours.

May be you were watched the PEBs on BBC 2 analogue, while John Ashe was on was a run of those shifts. Even then, the repeat showing on BBC 1 NI would have had whichever person was on duty on that channel.

I think UTV focus could be just something that looks at peoples lives like A day in the life used to do...

The answer to my question:

UTV Focus: Making History (The History of the Troubles Accordin to My Da... According to Ivan Little)

Journalist and actor Ivan Little traces the development of one of Northern Ireland's most successful plays, The History of the Troubles (Accordin' to My Da). Little, who appears in the production, discusses why the play is so popular and talks about how it has become a hit both in Ireland and in London.

The category has now been changed to Documentary by the way!

New addition to UTV's election team, Jim Dougal:

I believe he worked for UTV before, as well as the BBC?

EDIT: I knew I had seen him on UTV recently! He was the presenter, producer and director of the documentary The Eternal Optimist which was shown just before Christmas.

Jim presented the first Newsline 6.30 with Yvette Shapiro for a few months before it was realised they weren't going down well with the public so were replaced. Jim then went for a job with the EU before coming back to NI a few years ago.

Interesting to see he's now at UTV... and I see they are now also doing virtual studios for reports just like BBC Newsline - only thing is they clearly don't have a CSO cloth big enough so they can stand on to go full length giving a more 3d like effect.

On the subect of former BBC'ers, former NI security correspondent Brian Rowan is standing in North Down in the up coming assembly election.

So the election schedules have been revealed today. Seems the BBC are going the whole hog and dropping the whole afternoon's schedule, whereas UTV are showing shorter programmes in between regular programming.

Here 's how UTV's schedule looks:

UTV Election Live

2:00pm - 2:30pm (30 mins)
3:30pm - 3:55pm (25 mins)
4:55pm - 6:30pm (95 mins)
11:00pm - 11:15pm (15 mins)

Total: 2 hrs 35 mins

And BBC One's schedule:

Vote 07

1:30pm - 6:00pm (270 mins)
6:30pm - 7:00pm (30 mins)
10:35pm - 11:35pm (60 mins)

Total: 6 hrs

It's apparently an "occasional series of programmes"! I'm quite intrigued about the look of its title sequence, there's a brief glimpse of them during a promo airing at the minute and they surprisingly look quite nice!

One gripe I have is that nearly everything seems to be using the UTV Live swirly plasma animation at the minute!! It can be seen in the closing few seconds of the UTV Focus promo, so it's obviously used in the opening titles of the programme. It's also used in the new UTV Live titles and the new generic endcaps. I'm just waiting on it being used as an in-vision continuity backdrop!

On a slightly different note, does anyone know who it was who voiced tonight's UTV News update at 8pm? Here's a clip

I dunno what that logo is supposed to be but that bloomin' lens flare has made it into a graphic again!

As to who the voice is, it could be a U105 reporter or just a standard member of staff. In all fairness the news about that man being guilty came in just before 8pm so if there wasn't a news presenter to voice it then it I suppose you could let them off on that one using a normal member of staff just to break the news.

Both channels had been told to expect a verdict by 5.30 GMT hence why it was all bulit up throughout UTV and Newsline wth the latter having a live truck ready to go in Spain but unfortunately, despite the fact they held on to the last minute, nothing came through.
