I though I'd follow the trend here on the Newsroom with a thread for regional news presentation in Northern Ireland.

Big news day here in N. Ireland today - the death of Denis Donaldson. The 6.30pm Newsline rolled with the breaking news for most of the programme.

The 10.25pm update was extended, and didnt bother going back to the network for the Ten headlines or weather. Full Newsline closing titles.

Havent seen any of UTV's coverage - did they do anything interesting?

Did BBC NI extend Newsline past 7.00 the other night for the news of Denis Donaldson's death?

And that must be the first TV Forum post that used the words "UTV" and "interesting" in one sentence Wink

Nope, it was just the normal half hour - RTE had only broke the news at around 6.15pm, so they didnt have much material to go on.

It was only the 10.25pm bulletin that was extended.

Also, I was a bit surprised on Thursday that there was no special bulletin on BBC1NI covering the PM/Taoiseach speech at Navan. RTE dispensed with their normal schedule at 11.30am to cover it live - BBC1NI could easily have opted out from 11.30-12.15pm instead of Car Booty.

News 24 covered it live. The statement contained no surprises and that was known in advance.

That hasn't stopped BBC NI opting out of the network before though

Which events of the same significance are you thinking of?

Only four posts and already a NI news thread is tainted by sectarianism Wink
