I am not sure why Ian Payne is the presenter, really they should have picked one Border and one Tyne Tees presenter.

They do keep using Tim Backshall (ex-Border presenter) as a presenter from location for the top story on Lookaround - a bit like when the national news send one of their presenters on location, and leave another back in the studio.

Whilst I imagine they wanted to just keep the pair from Tyne Tees, isn't there the possibility that the Border main presenters were quite happy working out of Carlisle and had no wish to move across country, recession or no recession?

I have noticed that the TTTV-produced Lookaround has adopted the North East Tonight music, in that it starts like the version in 2006, but then ends with the original 2004 music. Surprised I guess TTTV are trying to maintain some variation to the dullness around England and Wales in ITVplcLand. Rolling Eyes

No, I think it's far more likely to be the wrong music played out.

Watched the early morning bulletin on GMTV this morning - that woman sounds half asleep. It's been noted as well that with her glasses on she bears a canny resemblance to Nana Mouskouri...

Oh and which moron said that one presenter from each region could broadcast from Gateshead? Utter tripe. If they're really desperate Carlisle is only an hour and a half away by train but really... I think the way things are at the moment some Border folk would rather cut off their member than be in the same room as Tyne Tees folk.

Glenn is correct. TTTV use a mash of the 2004/2006 music in their title sequences.

Re: the presenters, Helen Pearson was the main Border co-presenter but can be seen on the GMTV bulletins now. She moved to TTTV even when they still had Mark Warr but obviously the head of news wanted a Border presenter. And Tim Backshall continues to report, with Fiona Armstrong supposedly being Features Correspondent, but I've yet to see her.

Just watched the lunchtime bulletin with Pam Royale welcome to ITV Tyne Tees and Border news .They led with Border stories Rolling Eyes i wonder how long that will last . I must admit i do like Pam and it wasn't that bad be interesting to see tonights programme.

I assume you mean Tyne Tees (first two stories were North Eastern)? To be fair, I thought the lunchtime news was evenly mixed, perhaps favouring Tyne Tees slightly. They've got the unenviable task of trying to please everyone in a region which spans 150 miles.

Anyway, here's some caps from the GMTV and Lunchtime bulletins for you to 'enjoy'. Videos to come.

As I am from the Granada Region, looking at the caps, it seems as though the desk is much higher than the other regional news programmes.

I can't believe you've just quoted all that!

TTTV used the normal desk when they moved studios in 2005, however it didn't last as they weren't happy with how awkward the presenters looked - mainly the males.

So they made them bigger.

From the videos I have seen, of merged regions, I don't understand where in the porgrammes the opt out happens. All of the clips I have seen, have only shown one programme titles, such as North East Tonight, without an opt out.

Looks like they weren't expecting ITV Local to be closed, then!

Last night it was just the ITV logo, so it was used throughout both opt-outs and the last 15mins. Meaning three ITV logos at the end!

I noticed the length of the opt-outs vary, sometimes 15mins, 16mins or 18mins.

The opt is the first 18 minutes of the programme. One half of the region is live, one is pre-recorded. That's the same in all regions that have this kind of opt. After 18 minutes there is a sting and that is where the two opts join as one, then opt out again for the weather.

Oh. So in North East Tonight, which part is live and which is not. Who are the presenters, for each sub-region?
