"Every year about 8000 people across Cumbria, South Scotland and the North East suffer a stroke..."

They're really going to get tired trying to hem all that in to the reports. Get Maggie in for the news, and let us see a return of 'from the heart of your region'... Very Happy

Who is that weather presenter Rolling Eyes She's like Rebecca Of Sunnybrook Farm, to good to be true. What about the Leeds team where are they now i know Debbie left .

She's just trying out different personalities , pity she hasn't owned one in the first place. Shocked Razz

Compared to the rubbish i'm left with in the South West you guys might still have a watchable news programme . Sad

Did Debbie leave for good, I saw that she did the weekend weather on ytv about 10 days ago.

Debbie is now freelancing supposedly, I know she has cropped up on the ITV Yorkshire weather the other weekend.

The programme wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Though a generic name would be better which could be used on all bulletins.

I noticed Kenny Toal did a news report on Tyne Tees and a sports report on Border - cost cutting eh!

From what I'm aware there's no longer a team at Leeds now, the weather forecasters now do the weather from their region. NE Tonight & Lookaround's 'new' (or rather demoted) weathergirl is Philippa Tomson, but before the NE Tonight and Lookaround merged she was reading the news in the evening bulletins.

Spare a thought for poor Kenny Toal: last night he was reading the news, tonight he was forced to sleep on the streets Shocked Wink

Re - The floor spotlight. They've demonstrated they have the ability to change its projected image during the programme (at the start it was an ITV logo, at the end it was itvlocal.com) so why can't they display an ITV Tyne Tees/ITV Border logo at the start of the split bulletins and switch to the itvlocal.com logo at the end?

Tonight just wasnt Lookaround - it didnt have the same warm feel. I think I would of prefered to have seen Lookaround completely finished rather than this poor imitation!

That was so forced.
It really underlined just how artificial the "region" is.
OK, the Border region was total artifice too. But this is even worse.

And I note there was no mention in that cumbersome "South Scotland, Cumbria and North East" mouthful of the third jurisdiction in the TT&B region, the Isle of Man.

OK, the Isle of Man will switch to Granada in a few months' time. But it was an omission Border Television would have tried to avoid.

Also, the two packages that made up part two were worthy but dull. Medical problems and help for the Third World.

And the run-out-of-ideas-already vox pop on happiness in the second part was just weird.

The second part needs to be proper human interest stories, about people and their plights, ordeals or triumphs. Geography is not so important for those stories.

It's all a facade.I bet in a few months there will be hardly any mention of south Scotland .
Fiona and Tim will not be there for long .They are just box ticking and shutting up the locals for now .ITV want it as cheap as chips and they are not going to have to two expensive people in Carlisle doing the odd feature and reporting when they can get the less experienced ones to do the same job for half the money .

Also, odd pattern they've got. Rather than follow the pattern of keeping familiar, friendly faces on, and going with what viewers want, we've lost Mark Warr (9y experience and a northern boy) but bizarrely light fluff Central twaddle Philippa Thomson has been demoted to weather girl (gesturing at a green screen behind her whilst looking thoroughly p*ssed off).

They've also got rid of NET's very own version of Adrian Chiles, in Jonathan Morrell, and in his place put former sports anchor Ian Pain in his seat alongside regional stalwart Pam Royle (who's actually a thoroughly nice woman).

A shame Mark Warr has been made redundant, he was someone who viewers liked and warmed to, similar to Pam Royle. Whats even more annoying is that their was no need for his redundancy, as they just replaced him instead of no presenter, they should have just let him continue, they even replaced him with Helen Pearson who is awful - why not make her redundant I don't think she's even been with Border TV for long? I know younger faces are appearing on ITV Anglia, but TTTV have kept Pam so why not Mark?

To guess the answers - but the more experienced newsreaders will have bigger salaries, and hence although the redundancy may cost them more initially, they'll see it as having to pay a lower salary in the long run.

And secondly, for all we know they may have taken voluntary redundancy.

Perhaps they've only got room for 2 slides (or whatever they're called)

How does Lookaround work then, any chance of a clip of that?

I have noticed that the TTTV-produced Lookaround has adopted the North East Tonight music, in that it starts like the version in 2006, but then ends with the original 2004 music. Surprised I guess TTTV are trying to maintain some variation to the dullness around England and Wales in ITVplcLand. Rolling Eyes
