Tyne Tees/ Border – News 3 (Trinity Mirror, Press Association and independent TV production company, Ten Alps)
News 3 offered a completely new multi-platform studio based at the Newcastle Chronicle offices and a strong offering of both news and news features. The bid promised a unique model for the future provision of local and regional news across different media platforms.
Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw said: “This is an important step towards our goal of ensuring choice for people who value high quality, independent local news. I’d like to congratulate all the bidders involved and all the members of the independent panel who under the Chairmanship of Richard Hooper have worked tirelessly to complete a thorough and rigorous process to ensure the preferred bidders are the right choice for Scotland, Wales and the Tyne Tees/Border region.
“The funding available to these consortia represents a massive commitment from this Government to help encourage the long term sustainability of news in the nations, locally and in the regions. I hope this focussed work will now continue with everyone working together to ensure these pilots are up and running by the end of the year.”

PK, being in Kelso you should know that ITV's definition of the Scotland-England border is a line running from Cockburnspath to Girvan, rather than the natural one. The Borders would have become part of the STV news area if they had won the contract.

The DCMS proposal is that the South of Scotland should be covered by the Newcastle-based service initially, but, at some point during the pilot, switch to the Scottish service. It sounds like a mess. Trinity Mirror, who are the lead player in the Newcastle pilot, appeared unaware at first that their remit included providing coverage of parts of Scotland. It looks like the South of Scotland is going to lose out big-time.

I am fearing now that this new pilot programme will be a Look East type geographical programme (TT & Cumbria) with very little of Southern Scotland

Border Scotland seems to have returned... We are getting the 'Scottish debate' All STV'ed from John McKay so far... He mentioned it is across the whole of Scotland.. never exactly mentioned the 'Scottish part of the ITV Border region!'

Did anyone see the 9pm ident on any ITV1 region other than Border? What did the continuity announcer say?
On ITV1 Border the guy mentioned the football on tomorrow, then said "Now on ITV1, Scotland Debates"
Now if ITV can still do regional idents, why don't we get idents before local 6pm news??

I thought Scotland Debates was airing across the whole of the Border region, as the Scottish part was dumped a while ago...

Yes I know Border Scotland was dumped, but resurrected for the one night... however I do know all the Border Region got it.... Did the Tyne Tees too??
Debate could of done with John Mckay properly referring to the ITV Border region and giving web addresses etc. I wonder if it will get put on the itv.com/border bit.
I do not think we need a pan regional bulletin tonight
both regions don't need 10mins ash update!
