Does anyone else think that's a remarkably long time for a regional studio to 'relaunch'? I know Look North have one of the bigger ones but I thought some of the others got it done in 3-5 days? Is there technical/ behind-the-scenes stuff also being refurbished?

Changing the floor covering can be a big job in itself - particularly if it is more than just a paint job. The bigger the studio, the bigger the floor. (One of the 6th floor studios at TVC took a weekend just to replace the Martac - which is a sticky backed plastic floor covering popular in studios...)

I guess it's just one of the negatives of having a bigger studio - don't Look North (NE&C) have a bigger studio than most regions?

they have a good sized studio. I liked the old one but I don't think it was used to its full capacity.

Odd time I have seen Look North looks like half the studio is empty! Do all BBC Regions do the News Desk then Sofa's routine?! Maybe on the Beeb I am to used to Reporting Scotland almost mirroring the Main BBC News presentation of one anchor behind the desk!

Most of the BBC regional news programmes have a desk and a softer area with a sofa. Although not all.

I'm a tad confused now - at the end of tonight's Look North evening bulletin they again commented on the sauna-like temporary studio to which Jeff added 'one more night then we're in our brand new set which looks *fab*.'

So it appears the debut of the new studio has been pushed back a day, set for a weekend launch (or holding it over for Monday perhaps?).

presumably look north's studio refresh is linked to the new regional football league highlights programme launching on monday evening? if so, then it might make sense for them to hold back until monday.

Given he was talking about them (Jeff and Dawn) being under the hot studio lights for 'one more night' I think it's fair to say either way they weren't talking about the weekend. My guess would be we see the new look on Monday, though it could be tomorrow (he did mention last week something about 'a week tomorrow' when it was a Thursday or something, though equally he said goodbye and 'see you next week' on Monday's show so clearly the studio lights are getting to him Wink).

What regions haven't gotten a new studio recently? South Today, Midlands Today, and Look North (Yorks & Lincs)?

Looks like we'll get a glimpse of the new studio in Newcastle on Sunday lunchtime at least:

I still think that Look North Leeds needs a new set as it's abit old now aint it 5/6 years old is it ? ?

Well they do seem to be gradually going round and updating with newsroom backings (it'll be interesting to see if Newcastle follows this trend).

Leeds has been through a couple of reincarnations - but still substantially the same set. It's such a small studio space that not quite sure how much you could do.
