Tonights top story in the Border region was the winner of the X-Factor. Firstly a North East story and Secondly come on is it really the top news story of the North East?! Im surprised Tim stood for that.

And only a few weeks ago, the top story in the North East was those floods in Cumbria, plus Tim has no say does he, he's a newsreader. Not an editor of the programme.

On Central Tonight, they give Bob a certain amount of editorial say.

Tonight's programme was an embarrassment. Sadly though, I can think of no other major story that should have taken prominence over The X Factor. Nothing like the increasing likelihood of the loss of 1700 jobs just days before Christmas and the knock-on effect it will have on 'our region'. Rolling Eyes

Whilst The X Factor isn't my cup of tea, I'm not blind. I realise many, many people enjoy watching and participating in the show and to some it has been the perfect antidote to this year's gloom and doom. I also agree that Joe McElderry winning the competition is certainly a North East newsworthy event. But not the lead story and certainly not worthy of the wall-to-wall coverage it received tonight. 10 minutes of the opt were dedicated to it, plus the entirety of the 15 minute pan-regional segment.

For how the story should have been covered, see Look North.

Tim does have a good say in what get covered actually - he knows the Border region extremely well.

He has picked up on the North East too!

Also to some previous comments on Pip's weather i think it is unfair as where ti counts the forecast it is very well done (why is she on GMTV every other week!)
