Tim's only one of a handful of staff who transferred from Border, the rest either left or were made redundant.

Anyway, can we stop all this wittering on about Helen Ford? This thread is meant to be a discussion about news coverage in Northern England and Southern Scotland, not a discussion on Helen's newsreading abilities or how many nights Tim Backshall pops up on Lookaround/NET. It's actually starting to become rather boring and has gone way off-topic.

You cant tell me what and what not to discuss! Very Happy

I dunno what's so wrong with her. IShe's about the only one left on there that I can still crack one off to before face of death Alistair comes on at half 6

Im sure they all got offered redundancy with others deciding to take the money and run rather than work in a massive new super region with changing job roles. Furthermore could see the writing on the wall that ITV regional news is nearing the end of its life.

Wait and see what these Consortuims want to do with the regional news - there is hope!

I wish I had your faith - I can either see this not happening or the news being taken over by groups that are worse at making the news than the current lot.

It's such a shame - Tyne Tees (certainly in the Mike Neville era) produced a first class show when it was an hour long.

I still have little hope cos' if the consortiums come through south scotland could be lumped with stv central then it's reporting scotland all over again and no regional news what so ever!

On the contrary, I think STV would work to ensure viewers in the south of Scotland received a half decent news service if ITV ever surrendered the Border Scotland area. Certainly a lot more than the token story a month viewers currently see.

Not quite. STV have plans to introduce a pan-Scottish, national and international bulletin. This will include an opt-out for Borders news, and purely Borders news at that, as it would concentrate on the area served by the Selkirk transmitter and its relays. Dumfries & Galloway would become part of STV West. However, given the current stand-off between ITV and STV, I can't see South Scotland being handed over to STV anytime soon.

Border may not have been perfect, but the current situation is a joke.

Haven't the Tories gone on record as saying that they're not convinced by the need for an alternative to the BBC for regional news?

I have been hearing from an ITV insider that there is meant to be titles update etc to regional news in December... Only for the big regions though...

I thought all the 9 regions were 'big' now!

There's been mixed messages floating around, from what I've gathered all regions will receive the update eventually, with the bigger ones (in terms of audience share) going first, starting with London in December. Is this correct?

TBH I'm quite happy with the current presentation. The titles aren't great but the astons, etc are certainly better than anything the national news now employs. It's the other form of presentation that needs improving...

I agree still wouldn't mind Border back though Wink Just needs a bit refreshing to bring aline to the main news... I heard it was the likes of London, Granada and one other to change first?
