Ahh ok. I’m sure Bakewell used to be covered by Look North/Calendar in pre-digital day’s.

Stanton Moor has always been a Midlands regional transmitter, started off as relay of Sutton Coldfield, that's not to say Luke North and Colander, didn't (and don't still) cover the town, as part of <slow-news-day-region-s t r e t c h i n g>

Emley Moor might well have been the best source before Stanton Moor opened in 1974

Bakewell has more of an affinity with Sheffield than any of the East Midlands cities so maybe that’s why they covered the town.

I believe there are holes in the coverage in the area, and you’d have to strain to be able to get a signal.

There was a BBC local radio special on Radios Manchester, Derby and Sheffield this evening, which goes to show how patchy tv signals are in the High Peak area of Derbyshire being served by three different local radio stations which are part of three different BBC regions.

The knock on effect on train services between Manchester and Sheffield makes it relevant to those stations regardless of whose patch the evacuated area is in.

Yes, it's similar to West Dorset, that is also claimed by three TV regions

The tri-regional overlap is within the SK17 postcode area (Buxton and surrounding areas), which contains TV relays of Sutton Coldfield, Emley Moor and Winter Hill and an FM relay of Radio Derby via Stanton Moor.

It's actually more straightforward elsewhere: generally Derbyshire relays in the S postcode area carry Emley Moor's signal (includes Hope Valley, Edale, Chesterfield and Dronfield), relays in the SK postcode area carry Winter Hill (includes Buxton, Whaley Bridge/Ladder Hill and Glossop), relays in the DE postcode area carry Waltham (includes Bakewell and Ashford-in-the-Water relays).

Bakewell is in a valley surrounded by high ground; UHF reception from Emley Moor is out of the question.

While the SK and S postcode areas do have connections with Stockport/Manchester or Sheffield respectively - not only is their post directed via these locations, but also the rail and road transport links are there, Bakewell is as Derbyshire as it comes, divided by the hills to the north from the cities of the north, and is even featured on the EMT weather map!

I do recall Calendar doing coverage of the Bakewell Show in years gone by when ITV regions tended to stretch their coverage, but Yorkshire TV is not receivable in Bakewell itself.

Back in early 2000s, I lived on the very outskirts of Glossop at the top of a hill towards Chinley and in terms of analogue, the lounge TV was strongest for BBC North West and Granada the main bedroom was strongest on BBC Look North/Yorkshire but the back bedroom had BBC Midlands/Carlton as the strongest.

Came in very handy if you missed a programme and wanted to watch it later on!

When I first got Sky we automatically came under BBC North West.

Speaking to friends there this weekend, it's been a tad chaotic in Glossop with people using the Woodhead and Snake to get to Sheffield rather than the Chinley, A6, Sparrowpit road.

Worryingly it's been a tourist attraction which hasn't helped matters.

The BBC NWT titles also surprisingly namecheck Edale, which is Look North/Calendar territory.

The last image on the mb21 Edale transmitter page linked to below shows the hills that block reception from the North West - those hills are literally the border between the S and SK postcodes, the watershed between the North and Irish Sea and the boundary between Emley Moor and Winter Hill's coverage areas...

The BBC South Today titles name-check Guildford, a town firmly in the London regional transmitter area, however, I believe Guildford town postcodes map Sky and Freesat Ch 101 to BBC South. I suspect similar differences in other regions ?

The BBC South Today (Oxford sub-opt) titles name-check Cirencester, which I'd have thought is firmly in Points West territory.

Mind you... the Oxford opt generally has a pretty liberal interpretation of its patch news wise, featuring stories from region-stretching localities such as Tring.
