I saw the opening of NT on Grampian tonight and it is clearly recorded. The side view of the presenters was shown and it had the two anchors talking to each other but it faded to the front view and their heads were facing the other direction.....this is so poor! Do Grampian only have a couple of cameras and have to record certain angles???

Lots of programmes record the opening of their programmes.

Time Warp
or the end and stings in between, such as on London Tonight.

There was a wonderful example on Midlands Today; The headlines suddently froze and started to rewind as Suzanne started aplogising to the crew, then cut to a live shot with half the team in the middle of the studio and then Nick Owen aplogising for a "technical problem" before a total breakdown and the Weather presenter having to fill for a few minutes. Lots of very red faces.

But one question, Since the introduction of the handovers from the 6 are pre-records still used?

The pre-recording of opening sequences was quite obvious on some BBC regional bulletins when they had the live 'windows' behind them. At certain times of the year, the background would be in full daylight during the pre-rec'd opening sequence, and then twilight when live after the titles.

I think on Midlands Today the section straight after the hand from the six is live, seeing as there is a feed from N6 on the plasma. Then I think the prerecord must start when the headline bed starts and the presenters go out of vision.

Thanks Phil. It does seem as though the headlines are pre-recorded. Last night Micheal Collie was slightly out.
Anyway with "Around the Midlands in 80 days" You've got to love 'em
