A bad start to the new look news on Grampian. On Sunday evening we were told about the all new Scotland Today starting tomorrow, instead of North Tonight. On Monday at 5.25 a.m. the wrong announcement was played out, followed by a black screen for one minute. We returned to ITV Nightscreen, and then crashed into the cliffs film with music, and a caption that said scheduled programmes will return as soon as possible. No regional news on GMTV at 6.40 or 7.10a.m, but on the return, Kate Garraway said a special welcome back to Grampian viewers who did not receive their local news. The ess tee vee rebrand is clearly not working. Sharon eventually made an appearance with North Today at 8.10a.m.
On the relaunch, it is a big WOW from me, 10/10. Well done Norman,Kirsten and Tyronne, my favourite trio. It was difficult to find fault with the programme. The only small criticism was the stark backdrop for the presenter who stood up, but that was corrected today.
Tonight’s edition was plagued by technical problems, resulting in the programme going off air. A fuming Norman MacLeod said that he hoped North Tonight would be back tomorrow; how embarrassing.

It certainly was embarrassing. It brought back memories of Pauline Allan struggling through the technical hiccups when three quarters of a broadcast had no sound.
I would have thought the Pacific Quay output would have been more likely to conk than the Tullos show.
Hope the late bulletin runs without a hitch.

What is going on at Grampian?Yet another link lost during the ITV news intro, as Norman was unaware he was live.

To answer my question - NO.
One almighty cock up at the opening of the News at 10.30 we crashed in to see Norman when Mark Austin would have been in full flow then got nothing when the regional headline is included.
It is going tits up at Tullos methinks! Confused

Well I have been watching a bit of Grampian this week [which I realise is odd], and I was delighted by the breakdown film you still have -- it was fantastically 1980s.

I would will HTV to breakdown daily to see and hear a local version of this.

The new version of North Tonight is ghastly -- but then as is probably evident, I don't very much like change.

I noticed the blue is lighter in the grampian set than the scottish set.

It just did not seem right tonight with Andrea at the desk and Norman standing. A few technical problems again tonight and more black screens on the early morning bulletins. How much longer can this go on for ?
I really liked the intro to the late news tonight, with Andrew at the laptop for the main headline.

I don't understand the proportion of TVF members who "don't like change". To be a TV-presentation enthusiast and to also "not like change" seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me.

"Change" is surely the whole point of what we're here for? When something is going to change - e.g. the studio set design of regional news programmes, or the idents of a channel, etc etc - that's exactly what gives us something to flipping well talk about in the first place!

If idents, studio sets, etc etc had never ever changed in the whole history of television, there'd be nothing for us to be "enthusiasts" of!

I get sick and tired of all the times that threads appear in the run-up to something new (e.g. a channel getting new idents), only for the new thing to be utterly slated once it makes its on-air debut.

It's even worse when such slating is accompanied by comments along the lines of "nothing will ever surpass the ident they used 1985-1991" (or whatever) - meaning that one is already dismissing all intervening idents, and has pre-decided to never like any/all future changes.

For those of you with such an "only looking backwards" attitude, there are plenty of TV presentation nostalgia websites. What's the point of such people being TVF members at all? Surely the very nature of this forum is more "forward looking" than anything else? Rolling Eyes

Andrea is a wee gem and has no sense of being better than others. I like her on NT and she does bring some personality to the programme. I hope to see her in command on NT a lot more.
