Just wondered if anyone knew when Grampian's North Tonight was in line for a makeover? In the promise of performance they said it was being re-freshed this year....but so far it has not!

Also they were introducing split coverage but with the recent pay offs will this still happen??

I have heard this as well, Barney. Grampian have a huge area to cover and the service from Aberdeen does not serve the whole area sufficiently. The highlands and islands need better news coverage. I sometimes watch North Tonight and I have noticed that the area needs to be split. Incidentally, is STV split for its news service or is this for advertising purposes only?

Advertising only as well, although allegedly Scotland Today is also to be split east/west for news in the future. Don't hold your breath.

As you know this has happened in England (Central West, East & South, for example) so who's to say that it won't happen with STV and Grampian. On the other channels Border & BorderSco (does Lookaround have an opt-out for viewers served by Selkirk and its relays?)

I think Border & BorderSco only differ in advertising, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Wasn't Border Scotland created because of rights issues to do with SPL? Isn't that why sports programming differs on Border Scotland?

Because when the decision was made to do it in England it was when there were franchise renewals and when the channels were regional, and therefore saw local value in doing it.

SMG are cutting back dramatically, we've got the excuse of multi-channel television and they've always seen Scottish Television as a national channel anyway, covering stories from outwith their area. Why would they voluntary become more local? It was a bargaining bid to get rid of lunchtime Scotland Today. Whether it's delivered will be another question.

There is a 5 minute opt in the main Lookaround programme for southern Scotland. And completely separate bulletins at 10.50pm. One for Cumbria and IoM; and one for southern Scotland and parts of Northumberland.

Well it was a definite go ahead for the split (opt out for the main NT edtion) Tayside to the south and the rest of the region would get Aberdeen!! It was also claimed that NT would be re-freshed?? I must say it is about time this was done....once a great programme is now poor at its best ....well done SMG!!

What is happening with Kirsten Gove? Is she still a presenter at North Tonight?

I must admit I have moved back to Aberdeenshire recently, and I have not been watching North Tonight religiously. I must say though I am glad to see Andrea Brymer again. I like her friendly manner.
