Let the journalists do their jobs of finding out the facts behind the scenes and putting together a responsible report rather than needlessly speculating about what might be a rather un-newsworthy story for hours on end.

I think you will find its already quite newsworthy if you live in Camden.

But 99%+ don't!

It's not just an issue of London though, it's an issue of responsibility - speculating about people trapped in a (fairly routine) fire or possible fatalities does nobody any favours.

In addition, you or I may not appreciate a Question Time repeat, but there are probably a few thousand viewers who make a point of watching it - and don't want to see it dropped for a fairly minor story.

And beyond that, it's incredibly annoying when you tune into a news channel expecting some decent coverage of the days news only to find both the BBC and Sky are devoting everything to one, often minor event.

Interesting to see it dumped to second/ third on tonight's BBC 1 news - the right decision if you ask me! Though something that caught me just then...

Ian Palmer: "The firebrigade and police aren't saying anything, so we... err... so we don't know what they are fighting..." - fire surely!

LOL - the BBC, we make it what it is!

This is a regional story at best - nothing will be affected of national interest (unlike the Cutty Sark for example), and frankly it's barely worth a mention in the national news at all.

I agree - obviously if it was a HUGE fire such as Crystal Palace Rolling Eyes or the fire of london Shocked then that would be fine, or if people were trapped. I'm glad that the Beeb haven't given more coverage, and are focusing on other news (unlike during the crash-ladding of that Boeing a few weeks back)

Although apparently Camden Market is one of the top tourist spots in the whole of Britain but make of that what you will.

To be fair, the BA crash coverage was warranted, how often does that happen, its not a regular ordinary event now is it Rolling Eyes

AP is in a warehouse on the same side of the canal as the fire, but across the High Street, MTV is directly opposite the canal from where the fire is.

Not sure what you're seeing on the TV in the UK, but AP are currently putting out high shots of the fire from their roof.

The fact that the fire is in a very built up and populous area combined with it's proximity to TV stations (including the biggest TV news agency) make it a big story.

A big London 'regional' story is virtually a national story purely because of how many people there are in the London area. This is a very famous location, if you have a look at Google News news organistaions across the world are covering it

Would you like me to go and set fire to one to see how the networks react?

Oh yeah - Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, the Hawley Arms...

For what it's worth, I think Camden is well-known enough to warrant the coverage this story has had.

As you can see from this screengrab, the story's even making news across the pond...

I'm not sure that stacks up. There are lots of people in London but London is a big place covering lots of towns in their own right. You could say that 'a big North of England story is virtually national because of how many people live in the North'

The american news services probably just hear 'London fire' and assume it is taking place one block away from Buckingham Palace
