That's the best backdrop I've seen of these generic sets. Yorkshire seem to have dropped their "window" in favour of those animating squares. Rolling Eyes

I think Tyne Tees set is the best version I've seen as well. It helps to have a great backdrop like the Gateshead Quays and the Tyne Bridge. (Although it is now identical to Look North's window).

All in all its a bit on the small side but quite a proffessional looking set. The most worrying aspect is the London Tonight style "expose" story that led the news - I can't remember Tyne Tees doing this type of thing to often in the past. I was also suprised they didn't have a pointless "Live" link with a reporter on any of the other stories to show off their new Satelite Truck.

As for the Teesside debate, I agree there's no way the set is in Billingham. They've never really changed the set since Network North days so they can't have done it in a weekend. Although introducing two seperate late night editions is a welcome development.

The other quite cool thing was the 3D Map to illustrate a news story. Bit like the New BBC weather maps but with location names and roads on it.

Well, I hope they have another disaster in the near future and can't broadcast news out of any studio at all.

There have been a fair number of occasions in the last 12 years where one or other studio has been unable to broadcast.

Note that the Watermark site before being developed had flooded a few times. So I wouldn't be too surprised...

But I'd imagine that they'll still keep the old equiptment at Teeside, if they really have moved the TT South bulletins/Late bulletin out of there, just in case...

Indeed it isn't on Teesside. As Central and Meridian do, both studios are based in one building. They are identical except forwith different back projections.
Personally I don't think it matters that the studio for Teesside/N Yorks is in Gateshead. What really matters is the newsgathering centre on Teesside which still exists.

Is it just me or does the lighting look slightly different there? If it is a seperate studio, what a waste of time/money/space. Must be twice the size of the old Teeside studio/set. And for only about 1/2 an hour of programmes daily from it...

Oh they can't win can they, I'm sure had it been a broom cupboard CSO, there would have been criticisms of how cheap it was.

The main problem I have with this, is the blatent effort to fool people into thinking this is still a Teesside-based studio when it is not. Not even mentioned anywhere, and they have a background which suggests it is.

Bad, bad practice. And yes, it is a waste of time running two parallel studios in Newcastle. This is all a precursor to quietly closing the Teesside office completely, mark my words.

Give over, Calendar East have their newsroom in Hull, but the studio which used to have a picture of the humber bridge in the background has always been in Leeds!

The comments that it is a waste for only half an hour per day, that's quite a long time, at least as Square Eyes says it isn't a CSO broomcupboard.

At least they've updated the South service, hasn't it been customary each time to do very little work on Teeside each time there had been a new look

I wonder if they'll do their normal summer thing of splitting the entire 6pm programme into North and South when Mike goes off on his usual August holiday?

The Newcastle set looked very impressive tonight with the backdrop of the Quayside at night.

I can't see them closing the Teesside newsroom over the next few years indeed they were planning to open a new South Durham office to improve coverage of County Durham and the Tees Valley.
