The Billingham studio will stay and is being updated with the digital newsgathering equiptment that the new Gateshead newsroom has got.

incidentally, the Northern Echo has reported today that Mike Neville has been ill and that is why he's disappeared from the screen. They are hopefull that he will return in the next few days. I hope he gets well soon, somehow it wont seem right saying goodbye to City Road and hello to the new studios without him in the Chair

But I thought the presentation of the sub-regional opt was moving to Gatehead, with two studios (and generic regional sets) being installed in the new buiding?

Or was this just a rumour/has the plan changed?

I doubt it. The Watermark buildings aren't that large, and they have to fit a news studio, another for non-news regional programmes, and a smaller one for Signpost BSL. Billingham still produces the late news for the whole region.

There was a report about the building a few months back saying that one studio would be reserved for "other regional programming" or something to that effect.

Yes, I think that was referring to the output currently from Billingham.

Is that a genuine webcam view or something like Calendar or Central News East? Hope its the real view as Newcastle has a great skyline down the River Tyne.
