1988 if I'm not mistaken. Very early on in the 88 revamp, where the sports area still had a plain background. That was such a crappy set... Laughing

Aye, Duncan Wood started at Tyne Tees.

Ah the set that looked like a spaceship, bizarrely I actually liked watching it, as I felt it was very different to the Calendar set at the time.

Strange isn't it, I didn't think anything of it at the time, looked OK in the 80s. But now...

At the time, I was more annoyed at the fact that Tyne Tees were too cheap to buy in a caption generator that could display the NL logo in colour. Then when they did upgrade, the one they used in Studio 3 for the short bulletins was set to display the red "LIFE" in a yukky green colour for some bizarre reason. Why did such trivial things bug me?

I don't remember this at all, but I didn't watch too much Tyne Tees in 1988, as I was 9 then, so didn't take an interest in news back then.

You'd have thought he'd have got that big mole removed from next to his nose by now. Just the thought of it still puts me off eating Coco Pops.

well its been confirmed in the Regional Press that Roger Tames is leaving Tyne Tees after 29 years (or something like that) with the station. He's moving to an independent production company who co-incidentaly will take over the production of Soccer Night from the in-house sport team at TTTV. (So the world still wont be deprived of his outstanding football commentary skills). Roger is a good sports journo and its the end of an era for Tyne Tees. Does is mark the beginning of the end for the stations excellent sports team?

Any chance you can edit this thread's sub-heading, Mike? It still says 'Final week at City Road'. Ta.

No-one seems to have noticed that NE&C are now using the full Leeds version of the Look North opening titles (ok, with their own pics) at lunchtime... but still a bloody awful hashup of the 1830 sequence!

First time I've seen the Look North regional 10:25 slot for ages. The Newcastle skyline looks absolutely beautiful as a background I must say. Is it a projected screen or a real window?

And very impressed with the male newsreader who does the late bulletin on Look North, is he new?
