In readiness for the big move to Watermark in Gateshead and the relaunch of North East Tonight we need a new thread...so here it is...
Surely they aren't cant to allow Pam Royle to do the whole of this weeks NET and the final broadcasts from City Road? Where's Mike, is he rehearsing in the new studios?
It is a shame. When I used to live in the North East, I always liked to watch Tyne Tees faces walking/travelling past my road [I used to live two roads away from City Road].
Pam Royle - Is she still Mike Neville's deputy! I would have thought someone like Andy Kluz would have surpassed Pam Royle, seeing as Kluz has anchored more Tyne Tees news programming than her.
it is a shame, but to be honest, the place looks a pale shadow if its former self and quite run down. Network production has ended there so there's no need for big studios like Studio 5.
There will be a special fly-on-the-wall documentary on Sunday at 6pm showing the move and how it effects popular Tyne Tees presenters, reporters and staff. First broadcasts from the new Television House will be the Saturday editions of North East News.
I really hope they dont use the London Tonight style studios for North East Tonight. Mike will look so uncomfortable perched on a sofa behind a coffee table!

So what's going to happen to City Road studios then?
City Road has been put on the market for redevelopment. It will probably be demolished. It should fetch a decent price for ITV plc as its in a prime site, perhaps the last available piece of land on the Newcastle Quayside.
I'm not sure it could take another complete "gutting". It's been there longer than Tyne Tees itself. The station converted it from two warehouse buildings when they started up. I suppose the new owners may decide to keep the old warehouse bit but demolish the 1980s Studio 5 and multi-story car park extention. (Complete with the infamous Tube [inspiration for the C4 programme]). However, from the way its advertised for sale as land with a great ariel photo of the site it looks like the whole lot will go.
There was a hint a few months ago that Tyne Tees would be designing their own studio. However I doubt it. And I'm sad to see City Road go. Wonder what will happen to the Billingham studios...
