Jonathan Morrell is an example of what happens when you give a TV pres geek a job in broadcasting.

I've spoken to him before about this -- it was his ambition to be a continuity anno, and read out the birthday greetings. He was the one who came up with the Ted idea.

He's actually a really nice bloke, who does have a great announcer-type voice, but it seems his talents as a newsreader aren't acknowledged by everyone...

Odd he's being interviewed on Look North some ten years after leaving them for Tyne Tees, bearing in mind the fanfare and air time North East Tonight gave him when he announced his retirement that day, it should've been them interviewing him really, IMHO...

Pan regional NET tonight I understand, Pip Thomson and Ian Payne.

Presumably with the Tyne Tees North backdrop.

Excellent North East Tonight this evening. It did get me even more in the Christmas mood!

Pip and Ian presenting from Studio 1.. with the North backdrop. Which went to a black screen near the end of the programme but then came back on after a report!

They had the sports news with Dawn and whilst that was on Pip had walked out of Studio 1. Leaving Ian to present - however we were greated by Pip over in Studio 2 (Used for South) with the special guests in the studio.. all standing up.

It was the Christmas appeal thing *forgotten name - sorry!* and they played us out with images of the appeal.

(No split in this Evenings programme).
