Watching those old YouTube video clips - It shows how much TTTV has changed. Sad

Exclamation When I said perfect earlier - I was meaning to the past couple of weeks. In the past - I've lost count at how many problems their have been.

A lot of the problems I have seen tend to revolve around poor sound quality.

Well the lack of studio space is sad really, when you look at Tyne Tees Today with its newsdesk that could seat fifteen presenters behind it without a problem.

They don't even have a desk now.. its just a coffee table. They can only fit about three our four people in the studio. Anymore and it would just be packed!

What a shame and what a waste.

An idea which was pinched from Border - they had a coffee table as part of the Lookaround set until a few years ago. That in itself wasn't too bad, but they also had some rather hideous chairs to go with it!

remember the 1999 relaunch when the astons failed to work correctly? Or the time in 1996 when the North edition of Tyne Tees News had to be abandoned half way through because none of the VT machines were working?

... or the Northern Life ep in 1989 where Paul Frost was reduced to putting out one of his infamous monologues at 5 past 6 because none of the tapes were cued correctly? Or the 1991 late news one Thursday which was abandoned without a reason being given by Maria Coyle after the first story failed and she bungled through a couple of other short pieces before just saying "Goodnight" and relying on Bill Steel to pick up the bits (that bulletin ended up going out at 11.20 instead of 10.35). Or the ridiculous spectacle that was an extended Northern Life in 1989 with horse races in the show where none of the graphics came up properly and that McCririck idiot, who had been brought in for the programme, spent most of the show taking the p*ss out of TTTV? Or the 1995 Christmas Eve morning bulletin that didn't go out due to the newsreader not getting in to the building due to snow and Kathy Secker putting in a star performance in continuity, filling up the full five minutes, before Bob Johnson popped up in the newsreader's chair to present the weather?

Tyne Tees always has been pure class. Totally unprofessional, and that's why we love it!

Just a pity It'll Be Alright on the Night has now finished, Jason. It has to be said that Tyne Tees has contributed lots of stuff for it over the years (anybody remember the famous Tree Planter report from the 70s?), and that lot would fill a programme on its own!

The best two out-takes as seen on that show are IMO Pam Royle presenting, the VT picture goes off cuts to the studio where you see Pam just sitting, however the VT sound is still running and the reporter says "this cow will have to be put down." Pams face is a picture.

Also, I think it might have already been said, but early 1980s (or late 70s - the cream Northern Life set anyway) the ginger guy with the beard trying to read out a story, but can't do it for laughing.

There was also the edition Tyne Tees Saturday, where the 'V' dropped off the TTTV sign in the background. (But I've never seen that since it happened.)

The Pam Royle out-take actually happened when she was at LWT! Laughing

As for the other one, forget the chap's name (Peter Holland?) but the story was to do about a York man being caught with "magic mushrooms".

The "Tree Planter" one sticks in my mind simply because of the number of twists in the item - the chap trying to find the site where he planted the tree so he can plant another one next to it, his attempts to do so ("I'll ask at the Post Office... they should know as I've been here twice before, once in 1964 and once in 1970"), and just when you think what could go wrong had gone wrong, he finally finds the site and starts to dig only for the spade to break in two. The clincher is when he says "never mind, I think I've got a trowel somewhere" which is enough to send the reporter covering the story, Tony Cook, over the edge and into hysterics.

A true classic. Laughing

Just to refer back to something I mentioned a couple of pages ago (sorry, I've been away) - I managed to find the tremendous Primetime theme. Quality's a bit naff, but still worth a listen if you ask me.

Clickety-click.

(IIRC this was originally on the Tyne Tees Logo Page, but seems to have disappeared some time back.)

Main story on NET (North) tonight is about a toddler who has fallen into a bath of scalding water.

Whilst this is obviously distressing for the family concerned, surely it can't be considered the main story in the north east?? Confused

Well they show a lot of things which arent really needed in North East Tonight now.
However the story above you mentioned should be in the news still but surely not the main.
