Probably because he's been on morning news all the time...
He can be moody, he needs to cheer up a bit and not scare viewers away.. especially in the morning!

Bloody hell - does Mark Warr ever

Whenever he presents the news he always looks so miserable. I don't expect him to be cracking jokes but he needn't look so dour all the time.

I don't think he is that moody, I remember one morning he and another member of staff on the GMTV shift in the bits where they weren't busy sat through a 'fansite' for Tyne Tees helping identify all the 'unknown' reporters and presenters pictured.
He was very friendly and far from grumpy. I quite like his style, he usually always smiles at the start and end of the slot, what more do people want, tap dancing?

Yes that is Jonathan, but that's a recorded announcement (they all were after March 1996 before the local news). By September of that year the recorded announcement had changed to one voiced by John Crosse of YTV.

And is this Johnathan Morell announcing for TTTV in 1996? (I thought by this point, Aug 1996, he had left continuity.)

The Tyne Tees Today / Network North ones I don't know where they came from but I remember at the time they aired someone visiting commented the 'Today' one he'd heard on Anglia TV.
I remember the 1996 Tyne Tees News one was recorded for Tyne Tees espeically as they went as far as doing a whole report on the new theme. I guess NET was also especially done for TTTV.

Any updates on finding out where the classic Tyne Tees news music came from?

As far as I can tell both TT Today and NN's signature tunes (and all the subsequent reworkings, of which there were quite a few -- the remixed TT News which took cues from both TTToday and NN, the TT News 96 version, NE Tonight and the 2000 reworking) were composed by John Cook at Tyne Tees (later versions I think were done by his son McGregor). Therefore in theory he should still have a copy. JC was TT's main music bloke/ sound mixer; he did many other compositions including the 1988 Flowing Rivers ident, Lookaround, Northern Life 1988 version and countless regional and national programmes. He might still be working at Tyne Tees, I'm not sure -- I think he was a freelancer in 2003 but who knows what he's doing now, I lost track.
