The main headline is normally covered by both North and South versions. The same with some of the stories too - however their are different sports presenters e.g one night North might have Dawn and South with Andy.

That isn't true.

In most cases the main story is different for both editions.

Hence the "Normally".

Since a good few weeks ago different presenters, Jonathan and Phillippa in the North, Ian and Pam in the South, I thought it was just Jonathan for the whole of the region tonight as the Tyne Tees website had only tonights version of the North show, but this has since been updated and what nelad said is correct...

The lack of space in the ITV Tyne Tees studios was really underlined in one particular feature tonight.

Pip and Jonathan were doing some martial arts type exercise (Qigong) to promote a dvd which is raising charity funds for a Newcastle hospital.

They were doing it out in the Tyne Tees garden which isn't ideal for mid-November. Thought that it was a sad demonstration that the studio doesn't have room to allow them to do anything more than sit on the bench.

It looked really small in the lunchtime bulliten today.

I dont understand Look North - they barely use half of the studio. The studio even looks quite big in the 360 virtual tours. Shows how much they use the space.

The studio is massive - Studio 1 at TVC on Barrack Road was home to Jukebox Jury and other programmes in the seventies. The old set was much smaller than the current - but the problem is they've only got three cameras in the studio, and they've recently lowered some lighting and put some reflectors in overhead. So to the presenter it seems smaller but to the viewer it may have just a little bit of an effect. Certainly improves the lighting though!

Could they not buy - say about two more cameras. Do new things - have different camera angles. Zoom in and out etc - at start and end of programme. Have headline summaries at 18:40pm in the evening news.

Little changes - Make a Difference.
Edit: Just use imagination - and do something new. Instead of same old same old...

Cameras - no, in a word, not until more cash gets injected into the NE & C operation. They really are the poorest funded region - but thankfully it usually doesn't show.

Headline summaries - why?

IMO Look North Newcastle does its job - presents the news, a bit of fluff, then goes. No fancy zooms, graphics a bit of a clunkorama and mishy mashy music but Carol and the team just do what they're meant to do.

Tyne Tees, on the other hand....

I thought the BBC TV studios in Newcastle didn't open until 1986? They used to be in a tiny little building which name escapes me.

I've been in the Look North studio and recall it being huge, and the technical person saying it could be used if needed for much more, but isn't.

This was in 1998, and I recall the control room right next to the studio looking like it was falling to bits. I guess thats due to the unique way the BBC is funded. Radio Newcastle had just got a nice new electronic jingle playing system though so cash had been splashed out, it looked nice next to all the 1980s equiptment most commercial stations had ditched ten years earlier.

Newcastle used to be in that old hospital building didn't they?
